Dog Days Non Alcoholic Drinks

It's HOT! Seems the heat that we've avoided in the mid-west this summer has finally arrived. I'm looking for cooling and refreshing drinks to help me cope with this heat. The simpler the better and please, no alcohol.
Here's mine:

Canada Dry Ginger Ale and healthy squirt of fresh lime juice in a tall glass with lots of ice. Everybody I've introduced this to goes crazy over it.
What's your favorite?

Canada Dry? :prrr:

Can't stand the stuff. If you're going to drink ginger ale, you're best off with Vernor's in my opinion.

Anyway, I've always favored ice tea on hot days.

I prefer unsweetened iced tea. What I'm after is the crisp taste because I've grown tired of sugar in my drinks. Since I stopped using sugar in iced tea and have almost stopped entirely with soda pop, I've lost at least 15 pounds in the past year.

Don't overlook the benefits of simply having a nice tall glass of icewater. too simple, too cool, too good.

If you want something more flavourful, I make a pretty decent punch-type drink. Mix the following:

1 quart unsweetened pink grapefruit juice
1 quart apple juice
1 quart other fruit juice, to suit your tastes ... I'd suggest something in the mango/pineaple/tropical blend genre
2 quarts gingerale

Mix it in a big insulated keg, and add in the biggest chunk of ice that will fit.

Home made lemonade from fresh lemons with freshly shredded or pounded mint in it (think mojito). Put it on ice and enjoy. I find nothing more refreshing than that on a hot day.

I feel a bit better since I stopped using sugar in my drinks during warm weather. For some reason, the more sugar I drink, the warmer I get.

One of my favorite is a limonade. 1/2 lime (juice), sometimes I add some of the zest with icy fizzy water in a tall glass.

Unsweetened iced tea is my go to in the non alcoholic category. This time of year is ideal for sun tea. I also like to make fresh lemonade. 1 part fresh squeezed lemon juice, 1 part simple syrup, cut it with 2 parts ice and 1-2 parts water to taste. Or substitute the water with chilled club soda to add a little fizziness to your drink.

Big fan of home brewed iced tea with just a touch of local raw honey. Just enough to taste but not enough to make it 'sweet'. Sometimes with a twist of citrus instead (lemon or orange).

Funny you say Vernor's. I immediately looked up top to see if you were from Michigan. For years we could not find that here in Missouri I always had as a kid when I was in Michigan. I also like iced tea that is about 70% of my fluid intake in summer.

I concur Doctor. One of my favorite beverages for a hot a day is just some fresh mint crushed up in some ice water. Delicious.

WARNING: It will make you want a mojito, almost immediatey.

From SE Michigan too so you know I know and love Vernors. It's just sometimes a guy wants a bev. that nibbles instead of bites :001_smile

There is a favorite Ginger Ale thread getting some hits right now. Haven't checked it out though. Wonder if Detroit's finest is on there. Gonna check and add it if it's not already there.
