What's new

Does anyone here use Barbicide for their own rotation razors?

I have always liked the jar of Barbicide in a classic / traditional barbershop, and I thought the jar would look cool in my bathroom.

Just wondering if it seems silly. I never have had any problems with my used, sitting razors, but thought it might make good occasional disinfecting while looking cool.

I don't, but feel free if you like the look and have the space. For disinfecting used razors before a first shave, I use Scrubbing Bubbles and perhaps a spritz of isopropyl alcohol. I agree, a jar of Barbicide on the sink or shelf does look awfully cool!

Just don't soak your razors in the solution for more than 10 minutes or so. I have heard horror stories of what Barbicide has done to some plating when left for a long time.

Thanks Wingnut. I was wondering about the plated ones. So then only 10 minutes will not harm the platings over time?

Yes they do look cool on the shave den counter.

I use mine on used razor I purchase and on razors I sell to other B&B members before I send them off.

I use a number of different brands of blades at the same time (I may have a dozen unwrapped blades out on my counter with various number of shaves on each blade). If I have a blade that has sat for more than a couple of weeks since the last use I will put it in a razor and plop both down in the barbicide just to disinfect anything off of the blade since it was used and parked for a while.

other than that the jar just sits there looking cool :001_smile

It's not a cumulative effect, so no--repeated soakings for 10 minutes or less should not affect the plating on your razor. Make sure to READ THE DIRECTIONS AND DILUTE AS INSTRUCTED, though, or all bets are off.

I have one in the corner of my Shave Den and after my week with a razor, I give it soap/toothbrush scrub, then a couple minutes in the Barbicide container.

I have cooties, so I like to clean them off the razor :a44:

I keep one that gets used every shave, quick dip before shaving then a 5 minute soak while i clean my brush after shaving.

The first step is admitting it bruce, and then you can seek help :a14: .

I bought a container of barbasol concentrate at Sally's beauty supply to clean a couple razors I bought. Given I have enough concentrate to make countless gallons, I should probably use it to clean my own gear regularly. It's a good excuse to get a barbasol jar

The barber's jars come in several sizes.

I used a dill pickle jar for a while until I found an old (wavy glass) Marvy jar.

Right now I just use a bowl with some Dettol although I did consider Barbicide. I know Amazon sell the jars and liquid.

Well I picked up my Barbicide container today at Sally Beauty Supply. I really like it in my bathroom, and the smell is not bad either. :thumbup1:
