Does anyone else prefer pure badger?

I've only got one brush, an Omega Stripey pure badger; however, I've tried out an EJ BBB, and I must say that I prefer the feel of pure badger. There's something about the coarseness of it which I find very invigorating for the skin. Although I enjoy the softness of the BBB, I think I'd take the scrubbiness of the Stripey any day of the week. This kind of makes me wonder why silvertip is all the rage, since I imagine it would be even softer and floppier than the best badger.

I like Pure in Simpsons. The lenght of the loft determines if a brush is floppier. Many silvertips have a stiff backbone and soft tips. I also don't care for floppy knots. One of my most used brushes is a Simpson in Pure badger

I have an EJ pure; too scratchy. It will do fine as an alternate and travel brush. I think there is something to the boar fan club. Even my VDH boar does a pretty good job at face-lathering (stiff backbone), and is actually softer on the face than the EJ pure badger.

I haven't tried Pure before, but am seriously considering it in my next brush purchase, the Simpson Beaufort. For you pure connoisseurs, do you recommend small (<20 mm) or medium (21-23 mm) knots?

I'll go for the 21-23 but I have a big head (x-large in hats)

Currently my favourite hair grade is the Best, since it has the right balance between stiffness and softness.
In particular I prefer Simpson's Best badger hair.
Simpson brushes have a very densely filled knot and a great backbone.
The Duke 3 Best is my number 1 brush.:thumbup1:

Last weekend, I ordered the Beaufort with the 18mm knot with 43mm loft as I wanted a good soap brush. I'll post some impressions after I give it a chance. I have an 18mm finest from TGN so if I don't care for it, I'll just swap it out.

in the moment i prefer my boar brushes. i've also got a pure badger brush from victoria brushes. its not bad but my boar brushes and my iKon brush are much better

I look forward to reading your review. I noticed on one of the online shops that the B2 and B3 have the same size knot, but with different lofts.

Just about my first week in with the Beaufort B1 and have to say I like it. My only brush is a Wee Scot that I've used for about a month. The Beaufort has more backbone. I'm not sure if it is just because of the 4 mm larger knot or the grade of hair. It was also slightly more scritchy then the Wee Scot, but seems to be softening up a bit with use. I've used the brush with Williams for the first week and it holds more than enough lather for 3 passes. While not as luxurious as the higher grades of badger, I don't think that pure badger is all that lowly either. The brush was definitely worth the $30 that I paid for it.

I have 2 pure brushes, one restored silvertip, and a boar. The 2 pure get used 98% of the time. I think I have used the silvertip 2-3 times. It is a lather hog and a lot denser then my pure brushes. When my eagle gets in we shall try out a best, I hope it is the best lol.

My predilection toward Silvertip was challenged by the B&B Essential - I'm not sure what the comparable hair grade would be in other brushes, but it's just this side of silvertip (maybe best or finest). I love it.

I Own both a badge and a Boar brush and I like them very much both for there differences one for the great lather the other for its strong hair massage on my face I choose both they are both winners in my med.cabinet !!!:tongue_sm I feel GREAT, I think I'll go have a shave or two My treat its on the house LOLLOL!!!

I have been using a Penwork's 20mm pure for face lathering the 5 months or so. The results have been great.
