Does a Brush last longer when using Creams only

I realized that taking up soap from the puck puts a lot of pressure on the tipps of my brush in relation to all other parts of the shaving process, even face lathering. With creams this part is way smoother for the brush. Now, I do realize that taking up soap is exactly the purpose of one's brush, but i have one specific, which I want to keep as long as possible - and find myself only using it with creams for above reasons. Am I wrong?

All the best from Germany,
Alex

The average life of a brush is considered to be at least 10 years. I don't think it is something that is worth worrying about. :thumbup1:

but i have one specific, which I want to keep as long as possible.

The obvious solution, is to buy another brush, and use this one just for special occasions.

Alex,
I don't subscribe to the cream brush or soap brush line of thought. I believe a quality brush will hold up to whatever you give it except perhaps scalding the bristles with boiling water of having them set in a scuttle that is over heated. I am fairly rough on my brushes when loading soap and have never seen any problems. Enjoy your soaps and face latering.

Maybe buying a cheap boar brush for using exclusively with soaps, and reserve your fine brush only for creams would be a solution? I was considering that for myself too...

I wouldn't worry about messing it up from using soaps. Brushes are made to withstand use with shave soaps and it shouldn't affect the long term durability whatsoever.

Any of the quality shave brushes are built to be used. So go ahead and use it. The only thing I'd watch out for is really mashing the brush down hard on the soap puck. Just use your brush lightly using the tips, and a good brush could outlast you. :001_tongu :wink2: :001_rolle

there are members here who report using their brushes for many years. There is a poster on another forum who reports that he uses his Plisson daily and got over 30 years of use before buying another and he is an exclusive soap user. So lather away and enjoy your brush.

The more you use a good brush, the better it gets. Those tips are meant to be abused, they'll only get softer!

IMHO soap or cream wear is meaningless. Either one lacks any resistance - abrasion - and should be insignificant to wear. I think your beard is much more abrasive to the brush hair than soaps or creams could ever be.

As others said above, brush wear is spread over such a long time it becomes meaningless. You'll probably be tired of looking at the brush and get a new one long before it's worn out!! )

Exactly. It is not necessary to not smash your brush into the soap in order to load the brush.
