Do you rinse between passes?

I splash my face with hot water between passes, but sometimes this thins out the lather on the 2nd and 3rd pass. Although it could be my lather technique, I'm still learning the ropes. So is it necessary to rinse your face between passes?

Not necessary, but I do. You can control how much water is on your face. Sometimes I rinse, but wipe off excess water.

I rinse after each pass. Yes, it can thin the lather a bit but since I use shave sticks, I generally just reapply a little more soap before each pass.

I do a quick rinse between each of the four passes. Depends on how awake I am, sometimes I'll do a full lather, others I'll run the DE blade over the area and the cream left over provides just enough to feel what I'm doing. I'm learning too, and it's practice times four each time.

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.

It all depends on the state the lather is in. If it is in need of more water then I will rinse and pick up a little water into the brush from my face. If everything is running smoothly, I'll just apply lather without a rinse.

I always rinse before my last pass to see what I have missed or what areas need more attention.

Yes. Always. I like to get rid of all of the cream near my ears and at the base of my neck that could have the tendency to dry and be more difficult to rinse off during the final rinse. Kind of like tidying things up as I go. I also believe that hydration is the key to a good shave and the best lather is the kind that keeps the surface of the skin hydrated. I like starting with a wet face before I apply my lather and go from there. Like one earlier poster stated.... you can always wipe the water off if you have too much.

I do a quick rinse and even quicker wipe to get rid of any excess water between each pass. May or may not do me any good, but I like a clean slate each time.

This is exactly how I approach the situation.

Yes. It's a quick check on my progress, clears the deck for the next lather and adds a bit of water to the face. Since I start with a wet face it makes things consistent.

It really depends which cream or soap I use.VDH Deluxe seems to dry kinda fast, while my CO Bigelow/Proraso is pretty hydrating.I also do it to check for missed spots.
