I change it up a lot, but I get much better shaves when I face lather.

i use a cream so i guess that limits me to bowl lathering.
I'm curious. If you get "much better shaves" when you face lather, why would you not always face lather? I mean, why would you settle for inferior results?

Not necessarily. My guess is that most traditional wet shavers fall into one or the other camp. (But, until the poll results are in, I don't know if I am right or wrong.)

Because sometimes I just like to lather in a bowl. I mean, this is a hobby so I like to change things up. I'm not always concerned about having a superior or "perfect" shave every time, otherwise I'd drive myself crazy.
When I use cream, I just put some on my brush and face lather. I have never bowl lathered.
I face-lather.
Oh. I thought most of us were already crazy. That just shows the folly of generalizing from one's own experience.

Just the aspect of always having a perfect shave is nearly impossible for me because I like to experiment so much.
At least I can get excellent shave every time
Tend to face with soaps and bowl with creams. If I finally get a scuttle this winter, that may change...
I started out with a bowl but I've found it easier to just face lather. This is with both soaps and creams.
Although I use soaps more often than creams, I have had no issues when face lathering creams, and have better results when face lathering. I find it easier to end up with the consistency I like. Give it a couple of tries and see how it goes.

Most of the time bowl but also face when I travel or am rushed.
I started out face lathering. That's all I did for about a year. I just didn't see the purpose of bowl latherng. This last spring I tried it and found that it was helpful in troubleshooting a lathering problem. I also found that I could get warm lather by floating the bowl in a sink of hot water, so continued to bowl lather as kind of a poor man's scuttle. I went back to face lathering over the summer.

Bowl lathered tonight for a change, My lather just never really goes onto my face right when I do it. In fact, I set the bowl aside and went back to the puck, then my face.
