Do you clean your shaving mug?

I recently immersed myself into the world of DE shaving and was wondering if you guys clean your shaving mug. I have a see through shaving mug and I can see moisture/wet spots underneath my Col. Conk soap. Do you guys simply keep the shaving soap in the mug until it is gone without cleaning? Doesn't water continuously sit around the edges of the soap and underneath (possibly growing mold)? Am I paranoid?

The water will help keep it from moving around. Conk's is melt able so you could mold it to your mug. Only melt glycerin based soaps with no clays. I melt my Conk's in to small glass bowls. I have never had problems with mold with other soaps though.

Well, it's got soap in it...so I might assume it's relatively clean...I don't know that you need to do anything special

The water won't harm the soap at all. In some cases with an ill fitting puck the water will expand the soap giving you a tighter fit to the mug and preventing it from moving around. If it were me I would change to a non-clear mug. What I don't see doesn't bother me. The old Old Spice mugs are nice and fairly inexpensive.

I rinse the outside of the mug when I finish shaving. The whole mug only gets somewhat cleaned is when I am changing soaps. Now that the weather has warmed up I am back to using Proraso and a bowl.

i've been using creams recently so the mug gets rinsed and dried before its put away. i try to put it in the dishwasher at least once a month.

I never remove the soap from the mug, it just sits there until it's used up. I have yet to see a moldy puck.

I've used a mug off and on for years (15+). It has soap in it, when the soap is gone, rinse it out, it's clean!

My soap is stored separately and I just use my mug to lather in. Generally in this configuration, a hot water rinse and storing it upside down is adequate. When I use pre-shave oil, however the mug looks like it washed up on the shores in Valdez after a few shaves. Thick, adhesive, greasy shaving scum and whiskers that will only come off with quite a bit of pursuasion (i.e. a full on take it to the kitchen and scrub it down). These sludge doesn't seem to make it to the inside of the mug but covers the outside (I put my mug in a sink full of hot water, the same water I rinse my face and razor in).

I use some glass mustard jars with plastic lids to hold my soaps. I use plastic tumblers to lather in. I just rinse the tumblers out when I am done with my shave.
