Do soaps in tins get rust contamination?

Been holding off trying some soaps because they come in tins. I am concerned they will eventually rust an get messy/useless. Am I wrong?

In my experience most tins are aluminum and won't have a rust problem. I keep all my soaps in tins because they are the only container that fit well in my medicine cabinet. Never had any problems with rust or tarnish.

Just get the replacement pucks/bars and put them into 1oz/250ml Pyrex glass containers, then you won't have to worry and it is much cheaper. Good luck.

I think go west young man has a good point.

I don't think that there would ever be much rust. Unless someone has evidence otherwise?

Haven't you heard of Iron poisoning. You will get sick and die, send to me, this biohazard, young nave, and I will dispose in a biologically safe way by smearing on my face and shaving it off. Thus swirling down the drain.

Some soaps like Pre de Provence come in aluminum screw top tins. In my experience the tins aren't high grade aluminum and do tarnish after a while. I took out my puck after noticing pitting on the outside of the container. On the inside, the container was badly tarnished and I had to shave off a chunk of the soap where the tarnish stuck to the puck.

There are other soaps like Mike's that come in tins that are actually made from tin or some other low grade alloy. I've also had bad experiences with these and in this case it's not tarnish you're dealing with but actual rust.

Most folks don't mind this sort of thing, I do. Even thou everything I've read says rust and tarnish are not health hazards I don't use these tins anymore, the only metal container that hasn't given me issues is my Cade bowl. But don't let the container stop you, just take the soap out!
