Do NOT Wipe

On the package of the Gillette 7'Oclock Super Stainless it says "Do not wipe blade". What does this mean? Any why?

yeah, so you dont cut yourself. Plus if you strop it (like you might an old blade) then you wil get rid of the coating that modern blades have

Some people remove and clean/dry blades between each shave, I guess more than a few have sliced their hand and the manufacturer is protecting themselves from frivolous lawsuits.

Yes, they're letting you know that the danger of slicing your fingers far outweighs any benefit you're liable to get from trying to clean a disposable blade.

Many blades I have say this. Some give an explanation that it will remove the coating from the blade that makes the shave smooth.

I always thought the direction to not wipe the blade was because some magical coating would be removed. I HOPE it has nothing to do with fear over people cutting themselves while wiping the blade. It's sad that we have dumbed down society to the point that everything needs a warning.

I think the culmination was the woman who won the lawsuit against McDonald's because she put a cup of hot coffee between her legs, and burned herself when the top came off. Hey lady, hot coffee is HOT. Perhaps you should not put hot coffee between your thighs.

And yes, razor blades are sharp. Razor sharp, as matter of fact.

I recently hung some pictures in my house, and was very pleased to see there was only one "warning" on the package of picture hangers: "when hanging pictures, use common sense." Now THAT's a company I can do business with!

I believe you guys are getting it wrong. It has always been my understanding that wiping a blade removes its platinum coating. Correct me if I am wrong.

How much of a coating could it be if it can be wiped off that easily?

I strop my DE blades and they work just fine.

BTW, the coffee lady won because McD's coffee is supposed to be served at a temperature that won't burn you if you spill it. That particular store sold her coffee at a considerably higher temperature, against the corporate guidelines clearly spelled out.
