Do any of you use the brushes that you may get with vintage mugs, etc?

I've picked up a couple that came with some Old Spice mugs, but not sure I would use them. They are not wore out, but one is shedding, and the other smelled like makeup or boot polish, and was dark grey. It cleaned up and no longer smells, but I'm still not sure these or any used brushes are safe. You just don't know where they've been.

My handles are just cheap. Anyway, I didn't know people were so crazy about these old brushes. I've always overlooked them and thought " Who would pay for that wore out thing".

I just clean them good and put them to work.

Even the cheap old handles are better than your average drugstore shaving brush today. Add in the fact that you can completely customize the knot to your liking, plus the inherent DIY'ness of this crowd, and reknotting brushes pretty quickly seems like a perfectly normal thing to do!

+1 Most older brushes are not in very good condition and you will be putting more work in trying to use them than you should be to enjoy your shaves.
