Dillons Hammer and Anvil Customs

Well, a little while ago, A B&B'r had seen a thread about my griping about trying to find the perfect strop, or the right strop as my first. We got to talking and turns out he had more information that I can handle at the time. we switched over to emails, and he literally broke down the fine art of stropping how to strop, what strop and for what reasons. Back and forth for a week or two. until literally, he made me completely understand everything I need to know; not just about strops, about resto, blades knives, honing, whatever. I had then asked him if he had ever thought about going into business for razors and strops ETC ETC....turns out, the guy did, didn't mention it once; nor tried to sell me anything; literally just gave a damn that I would do things right, and help me on my learning curve. I was blown away by this. I then took a look at his site, and literally fell in love with his work, I then asked about how he does it, and he literally showed me ALMOST start to finish his way of making me a strop. I then got one. and im in love with it. When I want to go to another full custom I would definitely goto him again. Not only for how immense his knowledge base is, but for the literal customer value he gives. He knew that I might not ever ask about a business, or anything; he literally did it out of kindness, and I wanted to further him and his website. I left a lot out as I want to add more info and perhaps pics here and there of what he was showing me. It literally was refreshing to have someone of his caliber help me out that much.

Hey man, that's what it's all about! I too had a member give me his contact info when I was (and technically still am!) a noob. He not only turned me on to a LOT of higher end soaps, brushes, strops, etc, he showed me start-to-finish the "way of the coticule"...I would never be where I am with Coticule honing if it weren't for him...He said that he's just "paying it forward", and doing for me what other members did for him.

I looks forward to the day where, as a seasoned straight shaver/honer, I can help the newcomers and offer to show people the ropes...That's what makes this place so great!! :thumbup1:

I definitely agree, especially with his kind of expertise, It makes me happy that im here and that there are people like him on B&B. Ah, I remember seeing a thread when he first started making strops. It was refreshing to see an original design. I love the draw of latigo myself : thumbup1:

Good stuff here. The generousity of this place is staggering. I try to help everyone I can. It is the least I can do for all the help I have recieved. Now I gotta go look into these strops.

yeah Raith, he does awesome work. I really gotta give him credit, I really put him up at the top or damn well near it with his work! If any of you guys shoot him an email or something, let him know I sent ya! lol

I have one of Mark's Latigo strops - and an ER strop also.
Im not a user of pastes - but the ER strop is well done, his compound if very effective. It's applied well, and it seems to be very consitent.
The Latigo is an interesting hide for me - again, the strop is made very well; the leather is top-notch and the finish is superb.
I'm used to HH, Horsebutt, Cordovan and steerhide. The draw from the Latigo is much different and it's quite enjoyable.
All in all - both strops were done very well - double thumbs up.
