different style of black handle Super-Speed

here you see a 1976 (W2) and a 1985 (F2) black handle Super-Speed. The knurling and the style of the base plate are different. Knows anybody at what year Gillette has change the style?

I have an A2 (1980 if I recall) that matches the second picture. Square base plate, no vertical ridges on handle, and coarser knurling.

I posted a similar question a while back, and never got an answer. My 1978 SS's all have the same handle as your '76, but the Y-1, and Y-2 have the more "traditional" base plate, while the Y-4 has the square one. I have yet to see a Y-3.
My D-1, 1983, has the same handle and base plate as your F-2.

So it changed somewhere between late '78 and early '80. I'm sure we can narrow this down a bit more with some more input.

I don't know, but the super adjustable had this change as well.

I know the Super Adjustable went to a plastic base plate at some point, did the handle grip change as well?
Mine is a Y-2 and the base is plastic, same grip as the '78 SS FWIW.

They used both knurling styles on the Super Adjustables. I have an older long handle Super adjustable with the first style knurling, and a later (plastic base) long handle Super Adjustable with the second style knurling.

Has anyone found any '79 SS's to compare the handle? Looks like it changed some time in '79 or '80.
I'm also still curious about the base plate on a Y-3, if they were made:confused:

Here is another different. The left one is from 1968 (N2), the right one is from 1970 (P4). I don´t know at what year Gillette changes the head style
