Did Shipping Go Up at Wingham Wool Work?

I was just going to buy 1 refill puck of MWF, but the shipping seems really high. I swear I checked this last week and it was lower. Right now it shows shipping as 7.32 GBP for just the 1 puck of MWF. Even after putting in the code to remove the vat that puts the price in USD at $17.38.

Anyone know if the shipping has always been this price or has it gone up?

Thanks,
J.

Looks like it. My last order for two pucks was 3.99 GBP. I just tried it and now its 8.49. Bummer. Still a good deal though, works out to be 25USD shipped for two pucks. Most vendors in the US are charging 13+ per puck.

Yeah it's still a good deal, but I can find it cheaper. I may email them to see if this is a mistake or what the reason is.

Thanks,
J.

Most probably because all the us fans are buying it all up:lol:supply and demand in these recession fuelled days:w00t:though its a shame if that is the reason!

I'd bet it's just because their international shipping went up. Maybe they hadn't really been doing that much overseas business until all us shave nuts noticed the cheap MWF in a dusty corner of their site?

I think I just made it by the skin of my teeth. Shipping did seem awful reasonable. Trumpers wanted 17 pounds to ship one bottle of cologne.

For some odd reason, I had an urge to order MWF with the ceramic bowl from them last night. So, well, I did.

Total was just under 28 usd shipped. Today it would be 35. That's still a good deal for that lone item shipped - shame about the refills though.

I guess they must have run out of the paper scraps they were using for packing material? Stands to reason, B&B members having ordered about five thousand pucks in the last three months or so. :001_smile

Here is the reply from Alan at Wingham Wool Works:

"We are very sorry but we have been victims of our own success and customer service. International sales have increased because of the web site reviews.
Quite a few packages to the USA have been lost in transit which we have replaced as soon as the failure to arrive is reported to us.
Therefore, we can no longer trust the basic mail system. It is good for the customers as it is cheap but bad for us as obviously we make a loss on the transaction.

We have now introduced a tracked and signed for service for all International small packages which adds the extra costs to the goods. It is an additional charge of approx $7 for each package

We will continue to offer the prompt service as before and hope that customers will understand the situation."

Same for me in Europe! 7,32 GBP is a bit much tho...

Hmm...it's a pity they don't offer the basic service if the customer's willing to take on the risk. I understand the problems with loss & replacement, but I'd be willing to take the (relatively slight) risk of non-delivery over paying $7 more per puck.

On the other hand, this doesn't seem to have affected big orders that much -- 11 pucks still averages out to under $9/puck. Shipping within the US is about $3 first-class-package...maybe a collective buy is in order?

Alan at W.W.W. did want me to pass along this information and to also let everyone know that this was not done to rip anyone off. They are still committed to selling the product and providing high quality customer service.

The amount of international sales they got for MWF was obviously a big surpise that they were not really prepared for.

Thanks for the update.

The explanation seems reasonable to me. They want to protect their reputation by providing excellent service but can't trust the delivery system. I am sure that considered a less costly option but did not want someone to complain about non-delivery thereby tarnishing their reputation. To me it's still better than buying $20 of razor blades and then having to pay $6 in priority mail costs and handling.

I ordered a ceramic bowl plus refill months ago and was surprised by how fast I got the product and how reasonable it is.
