What's new

Did it, and lived to tell the story!

Well fellas I had my first Straight shave today. My weapon was a Whipped Dog sight unseen deal. I must admit even though I thought I was ready, I was a little intimidated standing there razor in hand, all lathered up, and getting ready to take my first stroke. I did a WTG pass and was shocked, not a drip of blood, oh yea and...I didn't shave anything at all . So I relathered and said okay I guess the blade actually has to contact the skin to shave anything off. On this go round I did short very deliberate, no fear kinda strokes. I got a very good result. When I rubbed my skin wtg it felt smooth. So I thought why not try a XTG pass. This also went surprisingly well. I got a very passable shave. Not perfect but very good, as good as I get with my DE. And I got it with absolutely no blood shed! Hopefully this was not beginners luck and my next shave goes even better. My only negative about the shave was at times it felt like the blade got stuck on my face. And I would have to pick it up off my face and start the stroke over. I think this was because my lather dried out a little due to the length of the save. IDK. From start to finish it took my 20 minutes. I am used to my DE shaves being around 10 start to finish. I can definitely say now that I will be using my straight exclusively for a while. Who knows maybe forever if it keeps going this well.

wow, fantastic first outing! My first straight shave took 45 mins or so and I definitely had dry-soap issues. Congratulations on a super start to your journey.

Sounds like a good first attempt. You'll get faster with time, but for now just focus on trying not to cut yourself.

Very impressive! Good job.

To keep the razor from sticking to your face, try starting out with lather that's a bit wetter. Many people who use straights prefer wetter lather.
