Diamond Sharpening Plates question.

Hi all,

Our local supermarket is selling a version of these. They're sold a s knife sharpening plates, but I was wondering if they'd be suitable for lapping my stones (I've got the Norton quarter-hones and a Chinese 12k). Do you think they'd be suitable?

I'm not sure what kind of tolerances are used when the company produces these. DMT/ATOMA etc are produced with strict manufacturing processes and quality controls in place to ensure they are as flat as can be.

Possibly useable, if it's cheap it might be worth a shot.

Things to watch out for are; diamonds shedding off and embedding in your stone (happens) and warpage.

Personally - I'd get some w/d and a flat slab of tile instead.

I've got one similar made by Tala Tools I got in a local hardware shop.
Good for taming some ebay junkers

Hah - - wasn't a negative.
If you wanna rip off steel - why not use a low-end plate?
