Derby Blades

Well I got a chance to give these infamous blades a try today. I have been using feather blades so far and have been pretty happy with them so was curious as to how the Derbys would go.

Over all I am pleasantly surprised. While they seemed to pull a little it was barely noticeable. I got a good close first pass and a nice second pass against the grain, something I have not done yet with the feathers. They seemed to be more "forgiving"
Only a couple of very mild weepers, all fixed wit m new syptic pencil. Going to give 3 passes a go tomorrow to see how that goes.

I would give them a 7.5 out of ten.

I'm with you on that - personally, I've no problem with Derby Extras. Maybe not my go-to blade of choice (7 o/c yellow for me), but a good blade; rarely drags, no soreness afterward & get 3 good shaves from one (there's one in my Gillette slim at the moment - used it this morning, great shave)

Let's hear it for the Derby underdog!

Its good to see a little love for them. Today Ill be trying the Derby in a Fat Boy. Really interested in seeing how that goes

I started with Derbys, and used them my first year. They worked fine for me...but I much prefer Feathers now.

Agreed, I found no major flaw with Derby blades. Not in a hurry to buy more but never had a problem with the 20 or so I used while going through samplers.

Since Im still quite new I have only tried Derby and Feather blades so far. Both have performed very well. The feathers I would rate a 9 as they do a good job in 2 passes. They are quite sharp of course and I find myself taking more time to shave with them. The Derbys seem to give me a bit more confidence when I save as they dont feel quite as sharp.. Not sure if that names a lot of sense, but for now I'm happy with them in my Parker.

I have no complaints about the Derby. It's not in my top 3 rotation but it works a lot better, for me anyway, than a lot of blades that seem to have more favor. Unlike some, I have never had a bad shave with a Derby. Another classic example of mileage varying.

I used a Derby for the first time yesterday. My shave was noticeably worse than after using an Astra Sp or Personna Red. I cut myself a few times and after two passes the shave was not close at all. I gave up to let my face heal. I think I'm done with those.

I was not overly impressed with Derby blades. I wouldn't say they are a bad blade but for me there are a lot better choices available. 7 O'clock yellow are a current favorite and I plan to try some Personna labs soon.

I bought a 10 pack today and plan on trying one tomorrow. I'm hoping I find better success with them than the Wilkinson Swords from Wallyworld, since I can just got to the store when I need some instead of having to order them online.

That's why the Astra SP gets so much love - not quite as sharp as a feather, but less tugging than a Derby, plus it would be as forgiving as the Derby IMO, so the best of both worlds.
