Decisions, decisions

I face lather exclusively, I'm looking at a thater 4125 2band. For face lathering, what's the better shape fan or bulb? Also my favorite brush is a chubby2 2 band, is it similar ? Thanks for the help

In my opinion, get the bulb because it will splay less, i.e., less of a mop effect. My Thater is (4125/2 26mm knot) very soft but the hairs are somewhat fine which causes the mop effect. It is very different from the Chubby 2-band. My Thater is a 26mm knot which should provide more backbone, but does not meet my preferences. I would suggest a Rooney Heritage Stubby or Shavemac D01 3-BAND (yes, 3-band, not 2-band).

If you want a brush with backbone but you will not even feel the hair hardly at all go for the fan. The bulb has a bit more exfoliation.

Really, woulnt the 2 band be better, bulb?

I have been somewhat disappointed in my 4125/2 2-band (bulb). I love the handle and the size of the knot, but overall I like the knot less than my standard Simpson Best and Rooney Silvertip brushes. While I don't like scritch, I don't seem to like super-soft brushes. Now I remember why I sold my SR a couple of years ago. A Rooney Heritage 2 (not XL) or 1/2 or 1/3 are in the running for my next brush.

I find the D01 2-band the opposite extreme from Thater 2-band. My Shavemac D01 2-band is just coming around after four weeks of nightly palm-lathering. The three band is soft like Thater, but with more backbone. If he's a Chubby 2 lover I think the 3-band would be a good match.
