Wald A1, Muhle STF are the softest I have tried. The Mig from ApShaveco is a very splayable knot as well due to the way the fibers are, enjoy that one as well.
I ordered 29mm for both fan and bulb knots. They are slightly bigger, like 30-31mm.Which size do you have? From what I gather the larger ones don't have backbone issues like 25 and below so I went 29mm. Going to benchmark against the Wald A1 which is a 29mm.

Wow! I've got a 29 on the way of all of their STs. Will post photos next to the Wald A1 29 for comparison. I guess the ST-2 and ST-1 EX will be more like a Wald 32 or larger. If it helps, here are some pictures of Walds and the ST-2. The 27mm ST-2 fan is much bigger than the 29mm Wald fan or bulb.

Oumo ST-2 test knot
Thank you All bulbs, I presume? The left most almost looks hybrid, but closer to bulb than fan. Yes, mine are all bulbs. Hope this helps.www.badgerandblade.com
Looks great! Will post to the ST-2 thread side by side pics of all the STs next to the Wald.I ordered 29mm for both fan and bulb knots. They are slightly bigger, like 30-31mm.
Looking forward to your comparison, I do not have a Wald brush.

I did the fan. Sounds like a good alternative to give the Wald a break once in awhile. I haven't touched my badgers once since I got the Wald, never spent more than fifteen on a synthetic before. Appreciate all the info. Here's the ST-2 pre shipment pic.Did you order a 29mm fan or bulb? The spread of the ST-2 is much more than the Wald A1. The tips are similar softness and the ST-2 has less backbone compared to the Wald. Both are great brushes if you like softness.
Yup!Oumo ST-2 and a Motherlode are the softest knots I've ever used. Soft tips and low backbone.
Wald A-1 synthetics are as soft as it gets; but ‘cheap’ they are not.
The tips are, but not the backbone.
May I asked what others you have used? The Oumo ST-2 is the softest knot I've used
Does the Oumo ST-2 still feel softer on thr face, despite having backbone, than the mother lode? I was always under the impression that backbone made even soft tip brushes feel a little rougher.Same here.
In terms of softness, of all the ones I have tried:
OUMO ST-2 >Boti Mother Lode >> Muhle STF ++ Plant Based > All others
The OUMO ST-2, in spite being soft, it's not floppy at all, probably because of how dense it is. At least the two knots that I have.
I reached out. He said he cashmere and faux horse are the softest he has. Not sure how they compare to what I have already used.
Check out Phoenix Artisans Brushes, some are great, and under $25.00-.
Not to me - the Wald is pure luxury and feels like a cloud whipping up lather. The reason I said I didn't want backbone because in past experience it seems to also increase roughness or that scrub feeling. I want the softest face feel possible and feel none of the individual pokey hairs. I though backbone increased hair tip feel even on soft tip fibers. Is this not the case with the A1?
Lots of us love the Wald because we don't like weak backbone. I haven't tried a synthetic without soft tips. For you I would recommend the Muhle STF: soft tips without strong backbone. I would not recommend the EVO with incredibly strong backbone. The reason I said I didn't want backbone because in past experience it seems to also increase roughness or that scrub feeling. I did not mention backbone, and it does not have more backbone than my Boti Mother Lode. The ST-2 is very soft, as I said it is the softest knot that I have used so far. However, due to the density, you still feel a good amount volume when pressing it on your face. Some people compared it to a cloud. A very soft pillow may work as well. By the way, you can order the knot and the handle and specify that you want to mount the knot by yourself. That is what I did for both knots, and I found that I liked a higher loft than what they suggest on the website.Does the Oumo ST-2 still feel softer on thr face, despite having backbone, than the mother lode?
