Wald A1, Muhle STF are the softest I have tried. The Mig from ApShaveco is a very splayable knot as well due to the way the fibers are, enjoy that one as well.

Oumo ST-2 and a Motherlode are the softest knots I've ever used. Soft tips and low backbone.
I ordered 29mm for both fan and bulb knots. They are slightly bigger, like 30-31mm.
Looking forward to your comparison, I do not have a Wald brush.

If it helps, here are some pictures of Walds and the ST-2. The 27mm ST-2 fan is much bigger than the 29mm Wald fan or bulb.

Well straight 100% soft is not to my liking, I have a Synthetic Omega, It has some Splay Resistance, Some Backbone to Scrub, the Tips are Soft. Do not do everything wonderful, as it is had to use with HARD PUCK SOAP.
I honestly do not think there is ONE Perfect Synthetic to cover all BASES, and make Everyone Smile. If there was that would be only Brand Sold. %19.99 Super Duper Synthetic sold by Disney, it has to be Magic.
Thing is we got so many choice of Synthetic Brushes to choose from, all we need is money to buy, time to try, to find YOUR GRAIL.

Did you order a 29mm fan or bulb? The spread of the ST-2 is much more than the Wald A1. The tips are similar softness and the ST-2 has less backbone compared to the Wald. Both are great brushes if you like softness.
I did the fan. Sounds like a good alternative to give the Wald a break once in awhile. I haven't touched my badgers once since I got the Wald, never spent more than fifteen on a synthetic before. Appreciate all the info. Here's the ST-2 pre shipment pic.
APShaveCo Cashmere and the RazoRock BC Silvertip Plissoft are the softest I currently own. I also have Chubby 2 in Sovereign and Platinum, the G5C, G5B, SynBad, SilkSmoke, and Tuxedo knots.

The reason I said I didn't want backbone because in past experience it seems to also increase roughness or that scrub feeling. I want the softest face feel possible and feel none of the individual pokey hairs. I though backbone increased hair tip feel even on soft tip fibers. Is this not the case with the A1?

Does the Oumo ST-2 still feel softer on thr face, despite having backbone, than the mother lode? I was always under the impression that backbone made even soft tip brushes feel a little rougher.

I reached out. He said he cashmere and faux horse are the softest he has. Not sure how they compare to what I have already used.
Check out Phoenix Artisans Brushes, some are great, and under $25.00-.
Anyone know if his cashmere is the same as turn-n-shave's angel hair or how it compares?

Not to me - the Wald is pure luxury and feels like a cloud whipping up lather.
SynBad by APShave is my softest brush. I haven’t tried the Wald, but this one is pretty soft. I do like it as it picks up harda soaps just as easy as creams. It is not expensive either…
Lots of us love the Wald because we don't like weak backbone. I haven't tried a synthetic without soft tips. For you I would recommend the Muhle STF: soft tips without strong backbone. I would not recommend the EVO with incredibly strong backbone.
I did not mention backbone, and it does not have more backbone than my Boti Mother Lode. The ST-2 is very soft, as I said it is the softest knot that I have used so far. However, due to the density, you still feel a good amount volume when pressing it on your face. Some people compared it to a cloud. A very soft pillow may work as well. By the way, you can order the knot and the handle and specify that you want to mount the knot by yourself. That is what I did for both knots, and I found that I liked a higher loft than what they suggest on the website.
