Decent foamless gels?

A couple of years ago I was recommending high-end gels to gents with skin that is sensitive to soaps (like mine). I myself enjoy the gels from Anthony Logistics and especially from Zirh. I was wondering if there are any other foamless gels available that are similar in performance but that would add some variety when it comes to scent.

Just for clarification, I am not talking about cheap, mainstream gels. The gels I am talking about are mainly based on Aloe vera and glycerin with some sea kelp extract.

Many thanks in advance!

Cheers! MM

i have never heard of such a thing. you find gels better for your shave than traditional cream and a brush?

Yes. I have tried many creams and soaps, from all the well-known manufacturers, different types of DE razors, hot or cold water, brush, etc. Soaps tend to dry out my skin (any skin really, but my tolerance is rather low). Gels on the other hand are by nature moisturizing while still providing lubricity. And we all know how important well-moisturized skin is. While most gents are fine with moisturizing before and/or after a shave, I try to keep my skin moisturized during a shave as well.

IMO, soaps are generally evil. Just check out the oil-cleansing-method resurgence I started a couple of years ago here on this forum :ladysman:

Erasmic makes a clear shaving gel and I think TOBS has one too. The problem I have with these clear gels is that I have a hard time telling where I applied it. If I want something brushless, I'd prefer a cream, rich in shea butter :thumbup1:

Indeed, the gel is difficult to see, but I have my routine down to the dot. That is not a problem.

I know of a TOBS after shave gel but not of a shaving gel. Will have to look. Also, I think the Erasmic gel is more like Edge, but I might be wrong. Thanks! MM

The Erasmic gel looks like this:

I guess the TOBS one is supposed to be used with a brush, it probably lathers even if you try it brushless.

Gels work OK, but none of them has a decent scent.

I used to use the King of Shaves gels. they're pretty nice.

Paula's Choice used to make a non-lathering gel that was mostly aloe vera. As I recall the shave was pretty good. Not sure if she still sells it; check out www.paulaschoice.com to find out.

King of Shaves makes a number of good ones. The only problem I found with them was that they tended to really clog up my razor, and it was hard to wash the gel out of the blades. Don't apply too much.

i suffer from very dry skin as well and I've been using KMF and Cremo. I'll have to check this stuff out! Does anyone have any opinions on what might be best suited for leg shaving? even in terms of smell?

Well, smell/scent is a very personal thing, so no recommendation here. Regarding KMF and Cremo, the gels I am referring to (e.g. the Zirh and Anthony Logistics gels) are totally different. You might be able to get a Zirh sample at Sephora (they used to give them out years ago, but I don't know if they still do). In my opinion, i.e., on my skin, there is no comparison to, say, KMF. MM
