Decants on the way

Would like your thoughts on these. Some comments of my own. Will update once they arrive.

Mona Di Orio Vanille. Have heard so many good things about this and I'm a vanilla fan so I'm excited about trying it.

ELO Tom of Finland. I am a leather man as you all know (Guerlain Derby). LOL

Escentrics Molecule 01. The most mysterious fragrance on Basenotes. It is an enigma. I want to try it.

SL Daim Blond. I've tried it. I like it. But not bottle worthy, so I am getting 3 ml for those occasions that I want to wear it. Love the suede aspect.

SL Gris Clair. I've tried it. I like lavender and like Gris Clair. But I already have Kilian Taste of Heaven which is fantastic. Don't need a bottle of this, so just 3 ml.

I wouldn't go so far as to call Derby a leather scent (at least in the most recent form), so you're not really going to see any similarities to ToF, which really isn't much of a leather scent either, but I digress.

I really like Daim Blond and Gris Clair although GC tends to get a bit sweet in the dry down. It's still a great lavender that lasts and lasts.

Was just kidding about being a leather man. In general I hate leather scents but do like scents that have hints of leather (Derby, supposedly Cuir Beluga though I get no leather in that) and ones that claim to have suede (Daim Blonde, Bond No 9 Washington Square).

Daim Blond is fantastic but the dried apricot thing is very unique and I can't see myself wearing it a lot, which is why it's not FB worthy for me. But it has a suede in it that I really enjoy.

I'm curious to hear your impression of Mona di Orio fragrances.
My view on them is that they are not worth the money.
I haven't tried many, but I've felt that way about the ones I did.
I can't remember right now which ones.

They are expensive, which is why I haven't tried it yet and probably why so many vendors don't carry it. I only got 3 ml to sample, and that small amount cost me $20 which is a lot!

What does Mrs. Schad think of Daim Blond? Has she tried it?

She sampled it months ago and somewhat liked it, but she did not love it. She is very picky in what she likes and basically only wears Red Vetyver. Of the other ones sampled, she likes Sycomore and Bleecker St but is not a fan of the vanillas, the gourmands in general, and the old Guerlains (smells like a grandma).

ARRIVED.

Gris Clair. LOVE IT. I am a big fan of lavender. May be full bottle worthy.

Daim Blond. Like it but I don't think I need full bottle. The apricot is a turnoff.

Mona di Orio Vanille. Don't like it. Too smoky. Not vanilla at all.

Tom of Finland. Ok. Not my style but need to give it full wearing. On the fence on this one.

Molecule 01. Nice pleasant scent but not a game changer time "WOW" effect. Not full bottle worthy.

All these are on paper as they are my initial impressions. Need to try on skin.

Initial rankings:

1. Gris Clair
2. Daim Blond
3. Tom of Finland
4. Molecule 01
5. Mona di Orio Vanille

My wife's rankings of the 5 (and should answer Lamb Root's question)

1. Tom of Finland - easily the best of the 5 in her opinion
2. Gris Clair ("something my dad would wear")
3. Mona di Orio Vanille
4. Molecule 01 ("I cant smell anything")
5 Daim Blond ("I don't like this at all. Smells like fruits")

BTW the MdO Vanille smells better in the latter stages. The earthy sharpness evens out to a nice boozy vanilla. May have to upgrade this one.

"Smells like fruits" is the right description, but these fruits are an indicator of decadence and leisure.
