D.R. Harris Almond

This one doesn't seem to get as much play here as the other Harris varieties, but I think it's the best of the three I've tried. For my sensitive skin, it's really the first soap I've found that I'd put on a par with AOS unscented.

Just thought I'd share. Discuss if you wish.

I have a tub...but it does not make my rotation very often. I consider it a decent but not top tier soap for me.

I like the scent. A lot. It's close to the lavender actually, except for the bitterness no sweet thing.

Harris does scents better than almost anyone. Just incredible. Nice and strong without overpowering like a fragranced soap.

Performance though is not top tier in my book, not matching AOS.

The Almond is the only D.R. Harris soap I use now having tried all four scents, it seems to perform that little bit better for me, maybe its the extra addition of Almond Oil. The scent is very nice also, a classic gentlemanly scent of eau de quinine, or at least thats how I find it.

Unfortunately, D.R. Harris says that there is no almond oil in their shaving soap, just almond fragrance.

I'm hoping a loving family member will provide me a puck of DR Harris Almond for the Holidays. It's the only Harris soap I haven't tried.

Did you speak with D.R. Harris about this?

According to the ingredients list on the box, it says it contains Prunus Dulcis, which is the oil from Almonds even if its only used for fragrance.

I find that Harris is better than any soap on the market.

Besides performing like a classic tallow British shaving soap, Harris doesn't have a crayon scent that I detect when using AOS soaps.

Yes, I emailed them directly. The response I received said that their hand soap and one other almond product had almond oil, but not the shaving soap. I asked the question because I was trying to get a handle on whether or not the almond scent of D.R. Harris might be like that of the C&E SAO soap. I do not have the D.R. Harris almond soap, so I had no list of ingredients on a box to check. Hence the email.

Does that mean if I was to get another refill of their latest batch, prunus dulcis wouldn't be on the ingredients list?

Perhaps you could email them with that specific question. And ask what the purpose of the prunus dulcis is in the shaving soap - oil or fragrance or both.

Thats probably what I'll do, I know Trumper's Almond doesn't contain almond oil anymore, so it'll be interesting to find out either way regarding D.R. Harris' Almond. The puck I have now is fairly recent so we shall see what they have to say.

I don't worry about the almond oil, because it performs wonderfully with a boar brush and a straight razor, and it doesn't have that sweet almond scent that others do.

Its on my short list of tallow favorites with MWF and AoS.

After a little more experimentation, I would have to agree that AOS is still a notch above the Harris performance-wise, but only a notch.

I can endorse this statement. I prefer the scent of Harris almond to AOS sandalwood, but the performance is just a step below. the harris lather is a tad less creamy. i still have found that i can get superb performance out of harris almond though, it just takes a bit more time on the face to get that ideal lather. whereas with the aos, it seems like once the loaded brush touches my face i'm good to go.

if i was limited to these 2 soaps, i could be a very happy shaver. maybe throw in a trumpers soap as well. why not?

edit: i'll also add though, that for the price, harris soaps, in my opinion, are the best thing going. if you use the coupon code at west coast shaving, you can get a harris refill for $13.50. that's unreal value.

Any answer yet?
