Custom Shavemac Brush

I have had a shavemac brush in my rotation for the last three years. A silvertip was my first brush and stayed my only brush for about a year. Then I replaced it with a smaller shavemac pure. Which I have loved and yet love whenever I usei it (which remains very frequent).

I also recetly culled my brushes and was left without a 'large brush' which I love to use. Leading me to this revelation.

As I love the pure badger that shavemac made me, but was hesitant to get a large brush made out of pure, I asked Bernd if a custom 'blend' of badger qualities would be possible. It was and I ended up deciding on a 28mm knot in a Shavemac Retro handle with my special request blend of 60% pure and 40% Silvertip.

Behold the beauty of what arrived today.

What a unique brush! In looks and, I imagine, performance. The Shavemac Zebra. I hope you post some post-bloom pics and tell us how youre enjoying it :thumbup1:

Holy smokes, that's one sexy brush! Without telling us the price, was it abnormally pricier than any of his other brushes?

I am going to have to say that no it wasn't pricier. Because of the lower price of the pure badger, the custom cost was very low, in my estimation. The total was around the same price as a 30mm traditional handle in silvertip. But because the handle is not normally this large it too was custom. All in all I am really hoping to be wowed by it.

I will break it in tonight and take some post first use pics and offer a few comments on the feel and performance of the special blend after I have done so.

I am very excited! :w00t:

Great looking handle! What's the height of the loft?

Well I asked for 68mm, upon completion Bernd said that it is 62mm but with it in hand and a ruler up next to it I am going to say it is only 60mm.

I wanted him to somewhat mirror the loft and size of a Plisson size 20 but... it is definately not the 68mm that Plissons say that they are.

With Shavemac's density I was/am worried about 'flow through' in a shorter loft. But with the 60% pure I am not sure that that will be an issue anymore. I will see how it handles in a few hours.

That is exceptionally awesome, with a side of awesome sauce. Man, the handle and the knot are just a perfect match. :thumbup1: Even looks like a 2-bander.

You know, when I requested the mixed knot I didn't even know that this was how it was going to turn out.

I think I will stilll call it a 'two bander' though. :001_smile

I think you will come to like the shorter loft - personally, I like my lofts as short as I can get them

Enjoy your new brush, though - it's a beauty, and with that great hair blend it's the only one of its kind!

What an innovative idea!

I like how the black and white handle's color scheme is repeated with the hair color.

Enjoy it!

Most Shavemac handles look so boring...this one is just a classic of retro styling....and the excellent choice of mixed lower loft hair is definitely a good way to go in my view.
