Custom FS Synth

Guys, a few weeks ago I asked Ian at FS if he could do the Warwick syle handle in the faux horn flavour but with a synth knot. Well the reply was good but with a 21mm knot. Ok for me as it's going to be mainly for travel. So £16 inc postage was paid. Today this baby arrived. It's not what I odered but I have to say it's for me actually better. The faux horn chubby with a 26mm synth knot. A few test lathers tonight have shown a soft brush with good backbone and not a lather hog. It's way softer than either my previous Men 'U' or body shop synths. I think we're going to get along just fine. (sorry about the crapola pic).

Great looking brush! Would love to hear your thoughts after a few uses. I could definitely see using this for travel. Like I need ANOTHER brush. :001_rolle

Thanks for sharing! What is the loft? Could you please take a top down photo so we can see how dense it is please?

Guys hope this all helps. The knot is 26mm and the loft is around 56mm. It's the FS version of the 26mm finest chubby. Quality is good with no probs on the handle or knot. Looks good and the handle has colour and pattern differences from my FS faux horn chubby which would suggest its not moulded but possibly from a rod. Please dont quote me though.

Ok here goes.

This morning shave was in the shower with a three day old shark SS in my naked Gillette NEW, Arko soap and this new brush. First impressions good. Well made with good weight in the handle. The loft has soft tips but with a good amount of back bone (which I like). The lather was good and easy enough to work up on the face. Not a great amount of scritch, kinda like the chubby FS in finest. The lather was both painted and swirled on, with painting strokes comming off better. The lather was a little thinner than I normally go with but more than adequate. A 3 pass shave with a few touch ups and only one nick. There was still enough lather left for at least a good fourth pass. The loft is easy to dry and as we all know there's not a lot of bloom in a synth, especially the lower priced range. The knot was dry in a few mins mainly becuase it's warm again today, but I reckon it would dry in a around 30 mins anyhow.

A good brush for the price range and certainly out preformed in every asspect my previous synths, these being the Men 'U' premier and the Body shop. If I was to rank the three it would be,

FS Synth, Body shop, Men 'U'

So if you fancy a Synth brush but like me couldnt justify the big bucks for a Muhle etc, then if you want something a little better than the other two I've mentioned then try a FS sythn.

Here's, a top down shot so you can see how dense or not (no punn intended) the knot is.

As long as we're talking synthetic brushes worth a try, lest we overlook the Omega Synthetic Badges. For around $40 (US) it is a very nice bit of goods.

Great looking brush, do you think it would be good for a bowl latherer? I have been looking on google but cannot find the website to build a custom FS brush, anyone have the link?

PM me and I'll send you Ians' E-mail address. Or you can go throught E-bay contact vendor button on any of his items. As for bowl lather, I'm not sure as I face lather and shower shave. I'll find a bowl later and have a go though.

26/56 is getting closer to what I think would be ideal for the synthetics. I sent him an email...hoping to get a 28/50 to 55...if at all possible.

I have the regular FS synthetic now and just sold the H.I.S. synthetic - for face lathering - the FS is the better of the two - at least for me.

Thanks for posting this info!

How big is the face feel on the FS brushes? Synthetics generally feel a bit smaller on the face than badger or what not. How big does the 26mm feel?

I've got the same brush but with the 26mm finest, and the synth dosen't splay (at the moment) as much. So it's about 3/4's of the total splay size of the finest. It's softer though. As for bowl lathering I just took these two pics. A 15 swirl on an Arko stick in a smooth bowl (for daughter from aged 3, some time back) and the lather after around 60sec of work squeezed out of the knot. Guys remeber I'm a face lather in the shower so this aint a great lather for me. Hope this helps.

Very nice. I'm also a shower-shaving face latherer. How might I accomplish obtaining the exact same brush--or would you change something if you were doing it over?

Thanks

drivegas, for me this is a great synth brush. I've had it several days now and it's yet to fail to work a good lather up. So far the Wilkinson stick has given it the most testing but with a little adjusting of the water ratio it again made a good lather. As for obtaing one, just contct FS through E-bay and ask.

Good to hear about the FS brushes being so nice. Time to step up to the plate and get something soon...
