Currier and Ives mugs. Are they shaving mugs, coffee, or just decoratives?

I've found two of these blue colored mugs that say " The Homestead in Winter" and have a winter farm seen. They both are shaped like the old occupational type shave mugs. Thing is, my two are in differant sizes. The bigger one is too big for a puck, but the smaller one is almost just right. Anyway, are they really shaving mugs?

I'm with windrider on this one. The 'lathering bowl' that came with the Deluxe VDH set has become the puck bowl for the soap that was included. A classy looking coffee late mug has become my lathering bowl. Heck, people drink water out of jam pots these days.

Your palm and face are lathering bowls and for that matter, your belly button could be one! :D I know what you mean though, some bowls are made to be lathering bowls ... in that case I believe it would be helpful to post a picture so that we can 'check it out'.

We need pictures, please. i believe it is a requirement when you ask questions such as this, or it never happened. Hee hee.

I have two Currier & Ives shaving mugs - right now one has VDH glycerin soap and the other has a puck of good ol Williams in it. They work great.I face lather so I just get a good coating of the soap(s) on brush and then face lather with them. Also, they are collecter items as well as make a nice display. There were 4 of them that were issued so I have two more to find.

The only difference between a shaving mug and a coffee mug is that a sip from one tastes better.

I have seen the Currier & Ives mugs of which you speak in antique malls as coffee mugs or shaving mugs and at online auction sites as shaving mugs. Usually the difference is that the set of four coffee mugs can be bought for the cost of one of the same mugs sold as a shaving mug.
