Curious about the Schick Injector Type-E

As some of you may be aware, I've tried a few different types of safety razor.

During the start of my RAD I got my hands on some injectors. Here are some I tried:

Schick Type I, Type J, Type M (adjustable), Type N
Eversharp Type K

Pal SS adjustable
Pal SS non-adjustable

I also had a B-type repeater.

They were fine, but not remarkable. I got rid of them all a long time ago, thinking that injectors were not for me.

Then, in a moment of weakness, I picked up a Pal Injectomatic (this one). This is a great shaver. Quite aggressive, without being ridiculously so. The shaves were painless, smooth, and it came with the injector's best attribute - maneuverability (the little sports car analogy is appropriate).

Basically, I was in love with this injector!

However, I've never tried the Type-E (or D, for that matter).

--> So, has anyone tried both the Type-E and the Pal Injectomatic? What's your impression of the relative shaving ability of the two?

Hi MajorBurnz,

I have both an E and a D. I have not yet used the D, but I use the E regularly. I find it to be on the more aggressive side (along with the F and G) of the injectors I've used (E, F, G, I, J, K, L, M). Along with the F and G, it's probably my favorite type. I have also used the Pal, and mine does not seem that aggressive. Personally, I find the Type E more aggressive. I'm not positive, but I may have an extra Type E (I know I have an extra Type G) . I'll look, and if I do I'll be happy to PIF it to you. I find the E and G reasonably close in terms of aggressiveness, so, if I can only find an extra Type G, would you be interested in that?

Thanks for your kind offer. I'd be glad to accept. However, I'd also be willing to pay for them, so just let me know. :001_smile

So you liked the F-type? I've heard underwhelming reviews of this razor. I should be receiving one myself soon, so I can evaluate that for myself.

One problem I've had with injectors is that they're too light. I therefore have a plan to see if I can get a custom handle fitted to one of them (if someone is willing to take on the challenge).

That's why I acquired a chromed Pal Injectomatic. I'll see if I can get Bob to make a handle for it.

You are definitely correct that weight is an issue with almost all Schick injectors (except the Paul Revere model), if you prefer heavy razors. Should be fairly easy to de-handle a Type E or Type G and have a custom handle mounted. Here is what the head of a Type G looks like (see below). Something would have to be cast on it.

I get fine shaves from my Type F. I believe the mechanism that holds the blade is more fragile and less durable on the F, so if the razor has been heavily used or abused, blade mounting and consistent/proper blade positioning may be an issue. Mine looked like it was rarely used. The F, being aluminum, while solid metal is still pretty light.

I'll root through my injector box sometime over the next few days and let you know if it will be an E or G I'll be sending.

My impression is that it's hard to judge based on just one sample of the Injectomatic. Mine is usable, but is on the edge of being too mild. I've seen other B&Bers rate them as really mild and really aggressive, so I'd guess that there's a bit of variation.

My two type Es are in the range that I'd consider just right, but there may be variation there, also. Mine just feel right in my hand, and give me close shaves with minimal effort. I've tried a lot of different injectors now, and the only ones I didn't get along with were the Schick types H and N, and the Gillette version. Maybe I should shave with each one for a couple of months straight, though, before giving my opinion on their relative ability.:001_smile

Injectors shave so well it's easy to see why one might think of them as aggressive. On the other hand, you can also hand one to any inexperienced newbie (n=3) and most could easily get a perfect shave with it in the dark. That seems to indicate a mild razor. Based on my n=3 including myself I tend to think of them as extremely mild.

You may be right.

I have a couple of friends who find their Injectomatics to be pretty mild.

However, I'm used to very aggressive razors, and I find my Injectomatic to shave as close, as quickly as some that are acknowledged to be aggressive. So, perhaps my razor is more aggressive than the average Injectomatic. I find it more so than my Cobra Classic, for example.

It could also be a matter of may technique making it seem more aggressive than it actually is.

NOTE: This was an aggressive use of the word 'aggressive'.......maybe even an over-aggressive use of 'aggressive'.

I will make it easy for you, just get one. They give shaves far more superior to a DE and are pretty damn close to a straight razor in shave closeness. The E type has a huge blade gap and if you are not careful on a very pronounced jawline you can slice easily or bite the jawbone with the gap, otherwise It's pretty easy to use.
