Cup to Set Knot in Handle

I searched through the subforum and can't find anything on this. Please forgive and redirect me if there is a thread that would help.

I removed a knot from a handle I didn't like to set in a new handle at a deeper set. The knot came out nicely. It was glued into a plastic cup/ring. I needed to remove that as I want to set the knot 5-7mm deeper than its original setting. So, I have a knot with nothing stabilizing the base except some glue. Do I just set the knot deep in some epoxy as a base or is there somewhere I can get a cup with ring for the hole to set the knot in? If I just set the knot in the hole with epoxy will that be OK?

You can fill it with bathroom caulk which is cheaper than epoxy, ballast such as BBs, small ball bearings, washers, or coins to fill in and add weight. Sometimes the epoxy around the edge of the plug is enough if it sets quickly.

Pennies work well to set the loft. Also, I will say that while BBs are great for filling handles, keep in mind a couple things. First, if not done properly, you'll be lathering up with a baby rattle. I've fixed this problem by layering in BBs over hot glue like in a parfait. I then heat the handle until the glue liquefies and settles between the BBs. This process may take a few cycles until you have a solid mass of glue & BBs. However, keep in mind that BBs will also add a substantial amount of weight to your handle. In my case, this was a benefit as the handle I used was originally top heavy (not a good thing). Depending on the height and materials used in the handle, caulk, epoxy, or other materials may be better suited.

I've seen some great ideas on filling the hole and getting the right set depth using pennies, BBs, or just epoxy. Depending on what empty handle I go with I will try these methods. I was looking for a "cup" to set the knot in and a google search revealed this for $2.95! I just need to see what the dimensions are.

It looks like they have a 7/8" bit listed under their accessories tab. This translates to 22mm. Looking at the collar, I'm guessing it would accommodate a 20mm knot.
