What's new

Cuffing your jeans to show more boot.

This isn't something that I've ever done, and I experimented with it a few times last weekend. I recently got a pair of Wolverine 1000 Mile Winchester boots, and unless I do something to shorten my inseam it just looks like I'm wearing wingtip dress shoes. I like a little boot to show when I sit down. Do any of you do this? Am I totally missing the mark here? For the record, I DON'T do it when I wear the boots to work. I just wear a pair of slim dark jeans and don't cuff them at all. I kinda like the cuffed look on the weekends though.

I occasionally flip the legs of my jeans up when the weather is really bad. Stops them from getting splashed and it also has the added benefit of showing off a little more footwear....

Not that there's any historical precedent for doing this sort of thing ...

Yeah, see, that's just cool. I think the secret to pulling it off may have something to do with self confidence. But I guess that applies to most sartorial decisions.

(Except for super skinny jeans)

Personally I think any type of rolled cuff (or rolled hem, for that matter) looks silly. I wouldn't do it unless I was trying to keep my pants from getting stained by oil or muck.

But if we didn't know that was Marlon Brando it could have just as easily have been one of the Village People.

You can always wear your pants at regular/proper length, but when you sit down just give a tug on the thigh part of your pants and let the bottom of the hem ride up higher. Folks will see it's more than a wingtip without you having to roll your cuffs up. It's enough for an occasional conversation starter. And, you can always cross your legs (masculine style) when you sit down. That shows them off well.

If I wanted to show off my footwear, i'd be walking around buck naked in nothing but boots.

Try buying a shorter inseam pant if it really gets to you that much.

Easier said than done, I'm afraid. I have midget legs as it is. I wear a 31" waist with a 30" inseam.

I've never liked the rolled up thing either, especially on rockabiliy hipsters. it's always struck me as stupid. "just buy some properly sized jeans, ya goof" tends to be my reaction to it when i see it.

and everyone who knows me says first thought? fashion scion, oh yeah, he's got style.

Guys... guys... no need to preserve my feelings here! Say what you really think!

I do it from time to time, only with dark jeans though. The contrast between the dark exterior of the jeans and the lighter interior cuff pops and looks sharp. I think it might not be so smart looking for 50 something folks, but if you're younger you should be able to pull it off. My wife gives it two thumbs up - and she's a head turner. When it comes to fashion, I listen to what good looking, stylish women like. They tend to have a better eye for things, and are more comfortable pushing fashion boundaries.

I suspect the old-timey jean-cuffers like Marlon, and like the guys who did it from the time the first Levis were sold until sometime in the 1960s ...

... did it because jeans came in one length ... "really long" ... and you just rolled them up to the right length for you.

Maybe hard to do with 60s/70s bell-bottoms.

Nowadays, IMHO, you are just as well advised to shop around and get jeans that are the right length to begin with, but to each his own.

i must repeat that i really like the boots. probably not my style as such a tall boot, but i can appreciate how handsome they are.

those boots are pretty tall… doesn't sound like you are that tall.. trying to re-imagine that brando image and i get squiggly (no insult intended, i loved watching squiggy)

i have seen one guy in college rock a huge cuff, he was not tall, not Caucasian and had a very urban, GQ style, i don't know anyone else i've seen be able to pull something off like that

i like your enthusiasm for the beauty of those boots, but sometimes it's hard.

i was thinking maybe someday with some 70s/80s tennis shorts trying and I imagine someone looking like tripper harrison from meatballs

this is the largest cuff i could feel, but i don't think that is what you are looking at

are you going for this exaggerated look? (likely a bit less high  )

I think you may be ending up with a look like this, but am not sure. and i could see that showing the boot

When I see pants cuffed reminds me of the late 80s when I use to wear rock T-shirts and cuffed my jeans. I would say just goto a dry cleaner they usually have a seamstress that will shorten them up a bit for less then ten bucks.

I rock cuffs on a few of my jeans, I made the choice when I bought them and never wear them unrolled. The pants need to be long enough that the bottom of the cuff rests where you would want the bottom of un-cuffed jeans to rest (at the heel). Don't just take jeans that have a perfect length and cuff them, they will be too short and may look more like "pegging". In other words, I don't think I would do it for the purposes of revealing more of my boot, I'd wind up with six inches of sock showing when I crossed my legs.

IMHO i wouldnt cuff, but I also have a western style and prefer to let my jeans stack on my boots the whole tucked in jeans also bugs me unless the person is working it just looks sloppy but YMMV of course. This was not meant at anyone and global_dev i hope your not the model with a fake denim shirt.
