Cross Bailey FP Boxed Set $15 at Staples.com

My wife and I are new to FPs and saw this gift set on sale. It is online only and regularly priced at $50. http://www.staples.com/Cross-Bailey-Fountain-Pen-Chrome-Black-Gift-Set/product-nr_718506 It doesn't come with a converter, but believe it is compatible with another Cross converter. Does anyone here have experience with these pens or similiar Cross FPs? Would I have to buy Cross brand refills or would others fit this pen? Any comments/advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

The carts are proprietary so parker carts are about it

Other cross converters should fit it, so your good for bottled ink... for 15 dollars it should be a good pen, but I don't have much experience with cross nibs so I cant speak to how they write

I had one and gave it to my father, because he liked the way it wrote. He uses it as an everyday beater pen.

It was a pretty wet writer and on the broader side of medium. As a result, it was relatively smooth... all things considered.

I got it for $20 at Staples on sale. It's a good pen for the price.

Oh... and it takes the Cross "screw in" converter and Cross cartridges, which have a rather odd shape. You can get the converter off of Amazon.

Thank you. I found the right converter on Amazon for about $5; now, to decide on an ink. You wouldn't happen to know offhand if the nib can be switched out if I don't like it or want something more fine (it comes with a medium nib)?

I've heard that Cross doesn't really make interchangeable nibs for a lot of their lower end pens. Basically, they're all medium.
