What's new

Creed Teaser!

Hi guys --

Stopped into the Creed boutique this afternoon. Luis, the manager (and now my new BFF since I bought all that Windsor!) told me they're going to be coming out with a new fragrance this Spring in celebration of Creed's 250th anniversary. He said it's going to be called ...

... wait for it ...

250th Anniversary. :001_rolle

He has no idea what it's going to smell like -- at all -- altho he suspects it'll be a unisex frag. The only things he told me were that, 1. It'll be sold only in 250ml flacons, and 2. It's going to be ridiculously expensive. Like, $1200-1300/flacon expensive.

Who's doing the split?? :w00t::blink:

Methinks the Creed fanboys and girls will pay up regardless. This is part of the business model of most of the high-end houses, after all-- lots and lots of editions, limiteds, and variations that collectors have to keep up with. All about the ching!

They are probably trying to exercise their dominant name and presence in the upscale niche market. Perhaps Clive Christian's outrageously expensive "Number One" has inspired them to try to grab some of that audience. Plus, at this point they have to be very, very aware of the large number of splits arranged by perfume aficiandos that offset the high price of a flacon. It's also good spin to call attention to their being around 250 years.

If you haven't run into it, Clive Christian generally has a very aggressive dedicated rep in places that sell it. For me, it's Nieman Marcus. I've known the CC SA for years from other cologne counters and she really lays it on thick with spin about the quality and expense of the Clive Christian fragrances, being openly dismissive of "lesser" offerings like Creed. It's quite a little show whenever I go in there.

I can easily see where some types who wander the floors of my Nieman could get drawn into her spin about the outrageously price of Clive Christian Number One ($865 for 50ml). I think many of her sales are made just based on the fact that it IS so much pricier than everything else.

I trust Creed enough to know it will likely be a fine offering, but it does make sense that it will be unisex. I'm not eagerly anticipating this one.

Given the recent direction of Creed and my "born again" wet shaver mentality, I fear it will fall more on the "modern" side like Aventus, and not on the traditional side like Vintage Tabarome. But, Windsor was a pleasant "throwback" surprise, so we'll see. Windsor is an odd sort of scent to issue in 2010, and I don't think many other perfumers could get away with it.

No small irony to celebrating 250 years when many of their oldest - and best - products have been discontinued. Creed continues to underwhelm me.

If you do a split and the frag. sounds good in the description ill give a split a shot... i was to late to pull the trigger on the windsor unfortunately

He told me the same thing some time ago, but that crazy price he said was for the limited edition Pochet Love in White. He mentioned that the 250th edition scent was less than that, but priced higher than Windsor.

I agree and disagree. I like Creed very much. Some of their older offerings are some of my favorites, but then again, some of the newer ones I find quite good as well.

I have heard the "public answer" that they give to people for the reasoning behind discontinuing some of the older better frags (Vintage Tabarome, Cuir de Russie, etc.) being that the ingredients are too hard to come by or that it has become too expensive to keep manufacturing etc., etc.

I don't buy it. My personal opinion on this is that it is a marketing strategy. They will create hype around some of their older slower moving scents by discontinuing them and then bring them back periodically as a "limited edition" and sell it for 3 times the normal price.

I think they know quite well what they are doing and they intend to cash in on the "discontinued" fragrances at some point regardless of their intention to never produce them again. Smart business. It provides them a way to make a higher return on something they already invest in and have already formulated without having to go to the drawing board all over again for a totally new scent.

Exactly.
It's devious, but they have so much good will, they'll take their chances burning it. Shame as Vintage Tabarome is one of my favorite scents of all time.

Evan, Evan, Evan - just when my budget starts to recover from one of your excellent ideas, you bring up another !!

Should you decide to do a split of the 250th, please count me in.

My Immediate Supervisor is gonna be SO steamed - she's already not the least bit happy with my fragrance collection.
