I only use shaving creams.
Shaving soaps, although may be very good, simply are not for my tastes.
Shaving gels and canned foams? NO, THANKS!

My favourite top-shelf cream is Castle Forbes Lime.
My favourite low-cost cream is Proraso.

I don't have a particular favourite as I like to vary my lather depending on my mood.

CREAM:
  • TOBS Rose. An amazing lather and scent to die for.
  • The Real Shaving Co. Top quality performance on a budget.
  • ERASMIC. Manufactured in Jordan. In the metal tube. Amazing scent. Real quality on a budget.

SOAP:
  • TABAC (Stick) for the lovely lather and great scent.
  • PALMOLIVE (Stick) again for an amazing Lather and great scent. True budget great.

GEL:
I don't really use Gels these days as I've moved on from there but I do still have some on stock from when I used a Wilkinson Sword Quattro cartridge razor.
  • GILLETTE Series. Nice scent.
  • KING of SHAVES. Low foaming Gel. Ideal for shaving round Goatee's. Menthol Kick!

Creams and soaps would take too long to get into.

I will only mention mass market products.

Gels- I have had good success with King of Shaves gels.

Goos- I am a Barbasol man.

Cream: AOS Sandalwood, Old Spice, Gillette foam as a last resort
Soap: Mama Bear Aged Spice and Bay Rum, VDH
Gel- nothing

I haven't touched Gels for a while now... I have some samples from a company named Primal Earth and I didn't like the way it lather...

Creams: Proraso, Men-U, TOBS Rose, GFT Coconut
Soaps: Proraso, Monsavon, EJ Seabuckthorn, Dovo shave soap

I've done one tube of King of Shaves gel, and I didn't particularly enjoy the shaving experience or the result. After a tube, I think I gave it a fair shot. On the other hand, I do use a latherless cream a couple of times a week, especially if I am going for a second shave on a particular day. I get a good shave, and it is gentle and moisturizing. The blade just glides along.

As far as soaps and creams go, they all seem to have their merits. I have six or seven sitting on the counter now, from the cheap Williams and VDH to the midpriced C&E Sandalwood (picked it up yesterday to get a teak bowl on the counter and give C&E soap a try - $18 for soap and bowl and only $8 for the soap), to the higher end GFT Coconut Oil, my favorite soap.

My favorite cream, even after trying the T&H and GFT offerings, is Maca Root from TBS. I like it more than the Proraso which will be arriving this week!

Cream: TOBS Lavender
Soap: Tabac (with Arko a close second)
Gel: King of Shaves

I had purchased the King of Shaves gel a couple of years ago while out of town and didn't like it much at the time. A month or two ago, I noticed an area that needed touching up just as I was leaving for the office. I grabbed the King of shaves gel and a GEM featherweight and was very happy with the result. I still don't use it for a complete shave but find it great if I need an early evening touch up or on those rare occasions when I finish shaving and notice a spot that I would like to be just a bit better.

Exactly! I'd never use King of Shaves for my entire beard, but it is great for trimming my goatee. It's a clear gel that doesn't foam much at all

Cream - Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort. This stuff does not have a scent, but in terms of performance, it is a winner.
Soap - if you can find it (and it is hard to come by), then La Toja shaving stick is great. They also do two creams - one standard and one for sensitive skin, both of which are excellent. eBay could be an option here, although shipping costs are eye-watering. Amazingly they have a web site with a store, but don't ship internationally. That said if you find yourself in Spain, most large supermarkets stock it.

I like the idea of a gel for quick touchups. My face gets very irritated with relathering and multiple passes. I'll have to steal some of the gel I got for my son!

Cream: C.O. Bigelow (the only cream I've used)

Soap: VDH (the only soap I've used)

I don't have much of a disposable income, ok?

Been there! That period lasted into my late 30s! Maybe you'll be gifted something interesting soon!
