Crabtree & Evelyn unscented shave cream

I got this as a gift at Christmas and it is in a tube. I have their sandalwood soap and really enjoy this. Anyways I tried the stuff out of a tube today and this did nothing for me. I could not get it to lather even after 2 minutes working with it in my shave mug. Eventually I slopped on what I had but could only do 1/2 my face with this stuff. I tried it with a really wet brush, drier, tried adding more cream, etc....nothing worked for me.

The tube does say to "add cream to face and shave" or something to that effect. Is this how I'm supposed to use it? Just shave with it "as is" on my face? I was very disappointed in this stuff. I do use Body shop cream out of a tube and that lathers fantastically. I'd give that an 8 and this stuff a 1 out of 10. Help.....

Just to clarify, are you talking about the C&E Naturals Line for Men? It comes in a grey tube, in a black box. That's the only C&E shave-cream I know that is unscented.

Granted, the texture is a bit unusual, but that doesn't stop it from giving a great shave. I apply it to my wet-face and rub it up by hand, adding a little water as necessary.

True, It doesn't product a lot of lather. It's not supposed to.

Yes, the naturals line is what I'm referring to. OK, I will attempt to hand lather on my face. I guess I was under the assumption that all of these creams had to be lathered up in a mug but it's impossible with this stuff.

True, It doesn't produce a lot of lather. It's not supposed to.

So I gave this another shot yesterday and I still do not like it. I guess I don't understand how/why a cream would be designed to not give a good lather. I did as you said and put it on my face and rubbed it by hand and it somewhat lathered up but I think I used up about 1/10th of the tube getting a decent amount of coverage. The shave was just OK but I will try again in the next couple of weeks. The texture reminds me of penaten cream abit...that thick white stuff old ladies use on their dry skin. Given the texture, poor lather and no scent this is one I would not personally buy (it was a gift).

The unscented stuff is not meant to be used with a brush.

I have never had any luck with these non-foaming creams. Maybe its my technique. I get instant redness!
