Crabtree and Evelyn Files Bankruptcy

I gave up on them. I liked their sandalwood soap. Once that was eliminated I tried some other things but didn't like anything else.

their shaving creams irritated my face. I like their soaps though. Weird though that Nomad gives me better lather than Sandalwood. I'd love to find a puck or two of the Sienna soap, as I did really like that scent.

I was never a big fan of their products save their Sandalwood Balm but the C&EBB brush was a fine starter for many people.

I have been amazed, since C&E became a mall fixture in the 80s, that they have not gone bankrupt sooner. Always seemed like one of those places that pay rent and don't have customers.

Good that I bought the whole Nomad series, cream, deodorant, after shave balm and cologne. I have a soap that I won't use until much later.

See what happens when you drop the C&E BBB? There are so many of these types of stores around, it is amazing that more of them don't fail.

tell me about it.. there's this Outlet mall off route 71 near Wooster that used to be a hub of commercial activity.. now it's more like a ghost town. Literally 1/3rd of the stores are empty. Half the food court is gone. Pretty sad.

(most of the stores really aren't true "outlet" stores either.. mostly the same stuff you'd find in the regular stores, it's just another outlet (heh) for the Gap, Levi, B&BW, etc. to hock their stuff..)

I wonder what this means for the Canadian portion? They are worldwide, so hopefully they will be able to stick around up here. They just called me yesterday to tell me my Nomad refill was in that I've been on a waiting list for months.

C&E isn't going anywhere, they're just in bankruptcy to allow a reorganization.
Some individual stores might close, but nothing I've read so far has indicated the chain itself is in jeopardy.

It was a sad day when true outlet stores became a way for brands to hock lower-priced lines of clothing custom-made for the outlet crowd.

The Secaucus outlets in Jersey used to be real outlets, specializing in stuff that was returned, slightly damaged or just wasn't selling. There are still some true outlet stores but not many. My wife has shopped the Patagonia outlets in Santa Cruz and Reno and they really are getting rid of items that aren't selling well. Problem is they are still expensive even after being reduced.

+1

Every time I'd been by my store, it was completely barren of customers. Plus, I suspect unless a guy had spent a little time researching wetshaving before heading out to the mall, he'd have no idea C&E even carried a nice men's shaving line. The men's shaving section in my store comprised a tiny shelf that you couldn't even see from the front of the store.

I just read this on Yahoo, according to the article the company plans on staying open and re-organizing...I kinda hope they have a few Good sales to stock up on some of the products

this probably explains why we could never get a straight answer out of them as to what they would or wouldn't be selling.

Unfortunately, this is a bad day for wetshavers. There are still plenty of people who need to have a local shop that carries mid-grade to higher end stuff.

The one in my mall just recently closed its doors, no sales, no announcement, just disappeared.

I hope C&E is able to re-organize and still offer at least some of their great products.

Fortunately, I'm OK with C&E shaving products (stocked up at a sale a while back). But they also have some other good soaps and produts that aren't shaving-related. I'll have to see if the local one is still open.
