Couple strop questions

I have a cheap beacon strop with brown leather but im not sure now to use the felt side and opposite this is a black leather, would this be just the backing or a finishing leather after using the brown?

Also does anyone know where in the uk i can get some canvas, i can take it apart so id rather replace the felt with a canvas and some paste.

I will be getting a tony miller strop but as im sure you know he's on holiday atm.

Huxley,

You might want to consider Mr Miller (Neil) at www.strop-shop.co.uk for all your strops, both fabric & leather; his work is superb.

I have had quite a few paddles & hangers from him in various leathers & fabrics, and his workmanship is excellent; prices are very good too.

Have fun !

best regards

Be no good to me id be hungry all the time.

Do any of you have a bridle and linen strop, i did look at latigo but they're meant to be heavy draw, i wanted something a bit lighter but not too light.

Well just got my strop oh boy she's big, i could do with it a bit shorter but im sure i'll get used to it the line linen works great and works really fast, the leather feels lovely, i wanted something inbetween not light on the draw like horsehide but not heavy like latigo, this feels lovely and supple and natural.

It's made the blade smoother and does seem to pop hairs better but i'll reserve judgement for when i come to shave later on.

Only thing i've noticed is that it wants to curl on the sides so i still carry out a small x action just to make sure the blade is correctly stropped, something a newb might miss out though.

Ok just had my best straight have yet, dfs was most certainly acieved, didn't go atg as i still don't feel ready, i had a nick or two but the blade is sharper, it really did feel smoother and i felt i could get away with more, i was worried in the beginning i wouldn't get on with a straight, i had a similar point with de shaving now my fears are unfounded.
