Nice Coticule BJJ!! Looks like a La Grise to me (?)...You'll be enjoying the edges you get from that stone in no time~!!!

If I were you, I would try taking a shave-ready razor, raise a very thin slurry (misty slurry, just rub your slurry stone once or twice), and just do 30 light x-strokes. With any luck, that should impart some of that coticule smoothness onto the edge... :thumbup1:

Easier said than done!!!! I was working with mine today whereas before I was getting acceptable shaving edges......today they wouldn't cut butter.....softened!!!! Good luck, that's a nice looking stone!

Interesting; I'm sorry to hear this! :001_huh:

Perhaps your slurry was too thick? It's really important to use very thin slurry when finishing; you might even want to just use water...Also very light pressure..

I always use water to finish. And I finish a full honing (setting bevel and diluting with about 50-60 very light X strokes) I clean the hone after 10 x strokes to keep the water clean.

I had a good bevel set and did about 10 to 12 dilutions. It was undercutting thin slurry well and getting a good bit of feedback "sticking" to the stone. I did 30 more laps on very light slurry and then the edge seemed to go backwards. It quit undercutting and no sticking. It did the same thing with plain water.....sorry BJJ, I felt like I hijacked your thread.

I love the edge off a coticule. Since I switched from the Norton I have found that the edge is sufficiant enough to shave right off the stone (regular stropping of course just no pastes)

BJJ, I think our stones are related!!! I bought my stone from Phil in person, same size, same vein, just only difference is that mine is a natural combo.

Here take look.

BJJ, does that stand for brazilian jiu jitsu or your name? If it is the martial art, I train in that as well.
He

Its brazilian jiu jitsu. For life man.

I cant see your stones in the link Man... Dont you have some pictures?

I love BJJ but don't train anymore. I used to be a Gracie Combatives instructor and was certified by Renner. When I rolled with him he tapped me in about 10 seconds!!! Now I just try to hone razors.....hurts less.

How much a instructor of these makes in USA?

Shawn557, you should get back into it. It is way too much fun!!!

Nothing really, I was just an instructor as part of my job. I do most of the teaching within my police department.

I agree you should get back. In the first moment its not motivating at all. Its like honing and making the razor dull ... Lol:blink:

But after a while it gets nice... And when we use the GI its a world of many positions....

Sometimes we receive some guys from usa , australia .... Its like ryron says each school has its style.
