What's new

Completely PURE silver straight razor ?

Is there such a thing?
I have seen a plated one but not an all pure silver straight.

Do they exist?
Anyone have one?

If so, whats it like? Pros? Cons ?

All I know is that silver has antiseptic qualities to it. ( So thats a plus for shaving )

silver is a strongly-bonding weakly-self-bonding metal because of its electron configuration. It's like how mercury's electron configuration doesn't readily release electrons, at all; so mercury doesn't form strong metallic bonds, and thus is liquid above -40. Silver's like that, except it has enough open valence shell electron slots to accept (and subsequently release) fresh electrons, making it decent for alloying and an EXCELLENT conductor of electricity. It is still, however, not very hard; and thus it won't hold an edge too well.

I love silver alloys. I don't like plain silver, it's too ductile like copper or gold. Need nickel and tungsten, and maybe some iron.

That isn't sufficient reason to make an instrument out of a metal, otherwise surgeons would be cutting people open with Silver instead of stainless steel.
Stick with conventionally constructed blades and invest $2.00 in an alcohol based aftershave.

Pick up a tub of silver sulfadiazene cream for $10, and stick to steel for aftershave. Or learn not to nick yourself. Stick to steel for shaving.

1045 high carbon surgical steel is stainless? Or have they moved on? I know there's some awesome new grades of high-stainless steel now, some might be as hard as 1045 these days...

Wikipedia says: Medical blades are made of 440C stainless steel.

The following website has both Carbon Steel and Stainless steel surgical scalpel blades for sale: http://www.swann-morton.com/surgical.php

But whatever it IS they are using these days - it AIN'T silver!!!!
