What's new

Joseph Elliot

Hello everyone, I have recently gotten into straight razors and would like to try to get a year on one I’m currently looking at.

It’s a Joseph Elliot with a wood handle. It has “Joseph Elliot’s Best Silver Steel” stamped on it. What would a year range be?

Blade appears in good shape, the handle seems to be in good shape as well. Just curious if it’d be worth adding to the growing collection. Thanks!

I see that someone bought this razor on eBay for less than $20.

Joseph Elliot made excellent razors, including the Best Silver Steel razors. I am guessing this razor was made between 1850 and 1890. The blade width looks less than 6/8 to my eyes. The blade is in good shape. I little bit of wear on the spine. Looks like someone may have honed the razor without tape. There is some pitting on the blade faces. The scales look original to me. The pins may have been replaced. One of the scales is cracked at its end.

Good buy for less than $20.

To put this in perspective, here is a restored Joseph Elliot 13/16 Best Silver Steel that sold for over $200.
