Comparing Personna Reds vs MED and LAB

How would you compare Personna Reds to Personna MEDs and LABs. For me reds are sharp and pretty forgiving while being smooth.

Would you consider MEDs and LABS sharper and smoother?

FWIW, forum member Oscroft does lengthy blind comparisons of blades. These threads make interesting reading (IMHO)

He finds:
Meds to be comparable to Feathers
Meds and Labs to be indistinguishable from each other
Red IPs to comparable to Astra SPs

Here is a link to the listing of all his tests.

I looked into that myself also and I agree Astra is very similar to the reds. I guess what I am curious about is the jump From the Reds to the MEDS/LABS. Is there a huge gap in sharpness and smoothness?

those are the older "labs" from what i am told. there is a seller on ebay selling tons of them and they are supposedly not the same as the red ip but they are old stock

I shaved with a Blue Lab yesterday for the first time. Came in a sampler pack, and been avoiding it, thinking it was the same as the Reds, which I can't stand (same with Astra's). The Blue Lab was substantially better than the red for me. It's sharpness was similar to a feather, but felt smoother.

Alright well that has convinced me that I need to try them. Hopefully I can trade off some Astra's I have that I prefer reds over and get some either labs or meds in the B/S/T. Thanks guys

I don't know that I'd describe it as a HUGE difference in sharpness and smoothness - but it's noticeable. It's your face, but 100 Labs go for around $13 so it's not much of a risk.

I also think you'll get more shaves from the Lab.

For me the meds and labs are my favorite blades followed closely by the reds. The meds and labs give me the smoothest shave.

I'm actually alternating between ip reds and meds right now. Still need on more time with both but initial reaction is that the meds are a bit sharper with a bit more feedback, which I like. The reds are butter smooth so far and probably the most comfortable blade I've used yet. Haven't pegged my favorite yet....

Hi, I just want to share that I have not yet tried the Labs, but I have used the other two kinds. I was not too impressed with the Reds, well, they were okay for me I would say. (A little rough though) The Med Preps however, I rate VERY VERY highly. They are sharp, smooth and very consistent, at least for me that is. The longevity of them I find quite exceptional. If they are dried and then lightly palm stropped between shaves, one can at least double the amount of shaves received from other blades.. Personally, I live on a budget, so consequently these are my prized blades. I HIGHLY recommend them to anybody.
Plus, they are made here in the good old USA!!!!

For me, the Reds are very smooth but don't seem as sharp as either the Labs or Meds. I love the Meds. And I know the Labs are supposed to be nearly identical, but I get nicked on my first shave with a new Lab blade every single time I put one in the razor. Not sure what the problem is -- probably me. And to me -- YYMV -- the Meds were at least as sharp as the Labs, but smoother.
