What's new

Col. Conk

I've only tried Amber. Very nice woodsy fragrance. It's hard to describe, but it isn't overbearing in anyway. It also lathers up exceptionally well. I remember the first time I tried it; after my first pass, I gave myself a thorough WWR and was shocked to feel how slick my skin still felt! I think I'll give Almond a try next! I highly recommend Col. Conk.

The first soap I tried was the Col Conks line. I still have a puck of the almond. When I first started I thought the vdh lathered better for me. I buy vdh more because it is cheaper. The conks line is good too. I would say give it a try.

Just shaved with the Bay Rum two minutes ago. I like the Bay Rum and the Amber. I did not enjoy the lime as others have. I found that the smell did not last. It might have been because I was using a sample, not sure.
For the price, it is a nice soap.

Do they make variety packs so I can try different kinds?

Back in February I went to their website and contacted them asking for samples. If you ask nice enough they will send you a sample slice of all there scents. Just enough for one shave, along with there catalog gratis. Just be nice and offer to pay for them and shipping.

Conk is made by the same company as VDH. Just smell good stuff added to it.

I don' think that is true. I've never heard of an affiliation between the two, and having contacted both for different reasons, I know their their communications with me were very different. The soaps also perform quite a bit differently. Below are the ingredients list I found for pucks of...

C. Conk
Triethanolamine, Glycerine, SLES, DI Water, Porpylene Glycol, Soap Flakes, Stearic Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Titanium Dioxide, Polysorbate-20

and...

VDH Deluxe
Propylene Glycol, Sorbitol, Water, Sodium Stearate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Myristate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Aloe Vera), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Fragrance, Titanium Dioxide, Triethanolamine, FD&C Yellow #5, FD&C Red #40

Perhaps you were thinking about Country Uncle shave soaps, which come in all the same varieties as VDH soaps. I think I prefer VDH to Conk, but I really do like the smell of their Bay Rum soap. I liked their aftershaves as well, but am not willing to shell out $20 plus shipping for them.

col conk was my first shaving soap , I dont buy it for the last 8 years . I remember I liked was a good gliserin soap

I've tried, and liked, the Amber, Lime, and Bay Rum. The Lime has become my favorite - currently have three pucks of it. :001_smile

Hmmm, maybe I'll expand my Christmas wish list to four small pucks to get all the scents :) I sure hope Santa knows what I good boy I've been all year.

Sorry for not being more clear :blushing: I didn't mean they were the exact same soap just that they were both glycerin based and the Col Conks had different scents to them. Kinda like Deluxe vs. Glycerin, vs. Select different soaps but all three VDH. As far as the same company, I dunno that is what I had read here and at other places who knows. Just because you have dealt with Col Conk's in New Mexico and VDH in Texas it doesn't necessarily mean that there products don't come from the same manufacturing facility in who knows where. I am not saying you are wrong, I usually am wrong (SWMBO can vouch for that). I was just spouting off what I had read elsewhere. Guess I wasn't very helpful.

The first and only Conk soap I have is the Lime. I personally didn't like it very much. It lathered up easily but it didn't preform well when I shaved.

I tried the Bay Rum, Amber and Almond. All 3 are excellent performers but I found the scent to be too artificial...
