Clubman is one of my favorites. Its extremely slick and works up a great lather. I've not tried either of the two you suggested, but imho Clubman is worth a try.
I use Clubman as part of my regular rotation. I also use AoS lavender. Some people do not like the smell of Clubman, I however, think it smells clean and like something from a tradtional barber shop. I have sensative skin and have had no problems at all with irritation. Also try the Anti Aging cream as a post shave treatment, very cooling on your face.
It smells hardly anything like real Clubman. It lathers well, and shaves decently, but like the entire Clubman Shave line, I don't dig the scent at all. But now that you can get it from Sally's for around a dollar a tube I find that I use it more than I probably should.
Believe it or not, Pinaud until a couple of years ago manufactured an aerosol Clubman shave cream that smelled just like Clubman aftershave. It performed great, too, better than this "traditional" cream. I would trade fifty cases of the Luxury Cream for one can of the aerosol Clubman.
The Proraso comparisons seem accurate. I bought a trial tube a while back and thought, "Proraso (or close to it)!" This wasn't too long after I'd closed out my local Target of it's Proraso stash, when they were clearing their stock, so I didn't need anything else even remotely colling and I haven't tried Clubman since. It certainly struck me as very adequate (in the very best sense of that word). In 2019, when I need more products with a cooling aspect, I'll give it another shot. Seriously, for those who like creams that cool their face, it's well worth a try.
I picked up a tube at Sally for $3.49.....closeout I think.
I like this one. The milder scent (compared to Clubman AS) is good in my view. I also bought a large bottle of the AS and it is way way too strongly scented for me...two drops made my eyes nearly fall out.
I found the shave cream to lather like mad and provided a nice smooth shave. The mild menthol I found very nice.
I will add this to my list of desirables...I just hope I can find it again.
I, too, find Clubman at Sally. But I only use their after-shave lotion -- after experimenting with dozens of products ten times the price, the Clubman turns out to be the most effective, pleasant, and cheapest, all rolled into one. Sorry I can't speak to their line of shaving cream, though.
I like it and think it works very well. It is fairly inexpensive. No it does not smell like Clubman aftershave, but I never had the opinion that it did. For me it will be a great replacement for Toms of Maine. I get it at drugstore.com (which still show Toms as available).
Clubman used to make a good canned shave cream. They stopped making it several years ago. It lubricated well and didn't dry out my skin. I've tried several other shave creams, gels and soaps since then and haven't found anything that worked as well.
I have the Clumancream and agree with the Proraso comparisons; however, it is slicker than Proraso to me.
Pros:
Clean smell
Great Menthol Tingle
Slick, very slick in my opinon
Adaquate Performance
Mousturizing
Cons:
Doesn't smell like Cluman AS, isn't supposed to
Lather tends to be thin and watery compared to other creams
Scent is ok, but gets a bit "eh" after a few days use.
Underperforms when compared to Real Shaving Co.
I feel most gravitated to the Clubman cream hoping it would smell like Clubman, once we realized it doesn't its just another easily obtained cream. If you are interested in the Clubman for simply its availability, then I'd go for Real Shaving CO intead, it is a much better performer IMHO.
I was in a little store the other day and found one very old, slightly rusty n dusty can of Clubman Shave Cream on the shelf, and bought it for $3. I think the guy was as happy to get rid of it as I was to find it! I tried it, and my first thought was that it smells great, but that the lather was pretty thin, so I expected a rough shave. Wrong! It was very slick and I ended up with a perfect shave! Good stuff, I will use this when the mood strikes, in between shaves with the stuff my lovely wife was kind enough to purchase for me. She got enough shaving cream to last until I'm old(er) and gray(er)!! Seriously, she found a store brand that I like that was on close out for .50 cents a can, and came back with about a dozen of them! This was about 2-3 months ago and I think I'm on my second can now. But I REALLY like that Clubman Shave Cream!
