Clear and Opaque Soap

I am still quite the novice at all of this so please bear with me.

Am I right in saying most clear soaps are Glycerine soap and the opaque ones are tallow?

I have tried a few of each and from what I have seen so far the clear soaps (mama bear, parker) make a lighter less effective lather than the opaque ones (williams, arko).

Does this hold true or am I not doing something right with the clear ones?

Thanks

With practice you should be able to get a good lather from a glycerin soap -- I just rediscovered my puck of Mama Bear Citrus & Basil yesterday, and it was very enjoyable -- but, like you, I prefer tallow soaps.

Yeah, Mama Bear makes a huge lather for me. It's all about what is best for you. All I usually use is glycerin soaps. Works bet for my skin. But again, it is whatever is best for you.

I find I get better lathers from glycerin/non-tallow than tallow, but that's just me.

(I think) all clear soaps are non-tallow, but not all non-tallow soaps are clear. TFS, Klar, MdC, etc. are all non-tallow, opaque soaps.

Now I have the correct terms. From my experience, glycerin soap lather is not near as thick or slick as the tallow soap I am using. Is there a trick to make it thicker?

Thanks

More product, more water, more time. It will eventually all come together.

I used Mama Bear Almond this morning and it was like someone set off a lather bomb in my bath room. Don't sleep on glycerin soaps.

Mama Bear Toasted Coconut was my choice this morning. I put a little water on the soap while I soak my brush in a cup. After a shower I dump the water off the soap, squeeze the brush and start lathering. Works well for me that way.

I'm favouring Professor Blighty's grapefruit soap at the moment. It's my first glycerin soap and not only does it lather like a beast, my skin loves it. Glycerin seems to agree with me!

I've used glycerine and tallow soaps, and I think if you are sure to load up the brush a lot and whip the heck out of it, you'll get a great lather out of anything. You may want to try using superlathers too. I started out using that technique a lot and it worked out well... here's a thread about superlathers: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/314400-Super-Lather?highlight=superlather
Ah! I face lather, guess I need to use a bowl for glycerine soap.

Thanks
