Cleaning Celluloid Case

I've had the joy of nabbing a single ring in a celluloid case with a flare tip Aristocrat also on its way.

My question is how to best clean and preserve these cases? I've seen some tips somewhere but cannot manage to find them.

Any suggestions and tips most welcome.

Thanks

I still don't quite have a handle on cleaning celluloid and would like to know which products DO NOT work with celluloid - alcohol? vinegar? rubbing compound? acrylic polish?

I am nervous to muck up the finishes on the few pieces I do have. Also, a lot of patina damage can occur when overly zealous on the cleaning. I got a might too rub handy on a fabulous travel brush I have and I am nervous of using any of the above items. Has any one tested them out?? Know what is good???
(I certainly could test on a crappy piece of celluloid - if I had one, but I do not.)

There are many comments on cleaning and restoring celluloid items on fountain pen forums (like The Fountain Pen Network).

One thing I do remember from those discussions is that celluloid does not do well if immersed in water for a long time. In other words, clean it, then dry it off. Do not leave it to soak for long periods of time.
