Cleaning a Mukka pot

It's been a while since I last used my Mukka pot. I had left used water sitting in the bottom chamber and it's gotten all funky in there. Am I going to have any luck trying to clean that out, or have I ruined an otherwise good pot?

I'd throw it in the dishwasher, I wouldn't trust not using soap to get rid of the funk.

After washing, you may want to make one pot of coffee to "season" it before you drink it, but I wouldn't think that'd be totally necessary.

Actually, if the bottom had funky water in it, the top probably had some nasty coffee too and that funked-up the filter. To be safe, I'd wash all of the metal parts.

I took the whole thing apart just now and washed it all with a soft scrub pad and dish soap. Everything but the bottom part is shiny and fresh. I got the built-up gunk out of the bottom, but there's still some discoloration. The discoloration looks as though it's part of the metal now. Is it still worth a run in the dishwasher, or maybe a few rounds of boiling with no espresso?

If it's an aluminum pot DO NOT put it in the dishwasher. That's how I ruined my first Bialetti moka pot some years ago. The aluminum will discolor.

As for the moldy coffee residue, just scrub it out with hot water. I've had this happen to me many times, and a good flushing of the pot with hot water works fine.

...Now you've got me in the mood to make a good pot of coffee!

I mentioned the dishwasher only because I hate hand washing. I'd guess that your pot is as squeaky clean as it's going to get, so I wouldn't run it through the dishwasher as it could leave detergent residue. Also, don't worry about any discoloration; that just adds character.
