Cigar recommendations

I'm mostly a snuff or snus user, being less harmful and no worrying about it affecting my kids. Once in a while though, I do enjoy a good cigar, especially with some good whiskey or scotch. Any way, I've tried a few brands and types over the years likes Acid, Onyx, or Punch. Mostly I like the medium bodied cigars. My go to tends to Hoyo de Monterrey, especially the Excaliber ones.

I'm going to hit up my downtown smoke shop in the next few days, and wanted to know if somebody had any good recommendations for someone like me that loves Hoyo de Monterrey.

I would recommend Padilla Miami or St. Luis Rey Reserva Especial. For a cheaper, but in my opinion equally good option, try Est. 1844.

Reviews on all of them look really good. Padilla Miami is a little steep, but the other two look about right. I'll keep an eye out. Thanks!

Ended up getting a few smaller Arturo Fuente natural and maduro, so that I don't have to stand out in the cold too long to smoke.

The tobacco shop I went to, the owner immediately remembered me, my wife, and both boys, even without being in there for a few years. Now THAT is how a tobacconist should be.

+1

Don Carlos, by Arturo Fuente, is a very good line to get into. They're a little expensive, but if you only smoke one now and again, $15 or so isn't too hard to swallow.

I know you already picked out your cigar, but for other new smokers who are combing these threads- my advice:

Just go to any real tobacco shop and pick out an affordable stick that calls your name. Smoke it, and next time pick out a new one. Soon you will have a list of one you enjoy, and some you dont. You can ask for recommendations from the clerk based on your new info. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Try tatuaje by Pete Johnson. There are others he produces depending on the strength of the cigars you like. Fausto (including Avon) these are full strength, L'Atelier are more of a medium strength cigar.

Tatuaje has had a cigar in cigar aficionado's top 25 for the last 9 years.

The Fuente Hemmingway was AWESOME. I think I liked it even better than Hoyo de Monterrey and a good deal less expensive.

I've heard good things about Tatuaje, so I'll take a look at them next time I go to the tobacco shop.

Hmmm interesting suggestions if I make it back to the US. If you make it to Canada I'd suggest Romeo Y Julieta No 2 or short Churchill

AF are great and can't go wrong with.Padron 3000, 5000 would be great lower priced as well, and anything from Oliva would be good start too, they have a G, O, and V lines

Olivia are another one on my list too. Heck, at the cost of cigars, maybe I'm just better off getting a pipe

Well if you ever get serious with that thought you know where to find is... and much like wet shaving, smoking a pipe is cheaper... if you don't like your PAD and TAD get away from you.

Being from Tennessee I guess that rules out anything Cuban? There are a few perks living up here in the North, I guess that's one of them. I always fall back on the no2.

Can't go wrong with an AF Hemingway - Short Story for a quick smoke and Signature (if I remember correctly) for a longer smoke. Well balanced, a lot of flavor.

Sadly they cannot, but that just means more for us.

I really hate idiotic embargos.

In other news, I've got a cob pipe on the way. Might as well start really cheap.
