Chronograph buttons are tough.

I have a Fossil watch with a chronograph. The issue with it is that the chronograph buttons are very tough to use. Any tips on loosening them up? Lubricate them?
I refuse to open the watch; but wanted to see if I could do something to help the buttons

I just checked mine .. they seem ok .. and I do recall them being stiff when I bought it .. I say give it time .. I have this type/style of buttons:
