Choosing a brush

Lots of good advice out there. I have my Dad's old bristle brush that he used with an OLD SPICE shaving mug, too bad I can't find that shaving mug.:001_smile
I recently broke down and bought a brush that has a winter badger for the handle. The brush it's-self is made up of "best badger" hair. The difference between badger & bristle is like night and day.

Mrob,

I wasn't advising or advocating for him to stop using his old brush... I still use a years-old badger hair of unknown origin and/or quality. I was replying to what I thought I heard, namely that he was thinking of doing that...

However, I wouldn't argue against tossing a truly crappy brush when he's starting to build a true high-end/committed wetshaving brush collection. (I just don't know enough about the brush he depicted above!)

As for your instinct to splurge for the "nicer" (more expensive, higher-grade) hair, I'd completely agree with that. If you're going to basically get one brush (and discard or pretty much stop using your old brush), get the best you can afford now.

My problem has been that every equipment purchase that I have made (brush, razor, etc) has been done with the thought, "Buy the best and only buy once". Let's just say I have more than one brush, razor, etc.:tongue_sm I guess the positive would be that they are all of very high quality.
