Chief Broom's new brush

A fellow member put me on to this brush several days ago. I laid patiently in ambush and got it.

Don't ask how much.

So what should I do with it when it comes?

Beautiful brush Chief. Re-knot and polish would be my suggestion. Do you know the size of the knot.

The description said handle length of 2 1/2" and 1 1/4" at the top, but "top" must mean bottom. On my screen the handle measures 5", i.e., 2 x actual length, and the knot is about 32mm in diameter, so that would make the opening 16mm. Pretty small. Didn't really buy it to use, but I'm sure it would work. I'm guessing it has a horse hair knot.

Probably a moronic purchase, but how could I resist?

Craftsmanship is always appreciated by those who understand the effort involved in creating eloquent items. Remember the Wee Scott has its many fans and is only 14mm.

I'd re-knot it and then just enjoy it. Great looking handle.

Awfully small knot.

But then that's the way they used to make them. I would like to be able to use it. Not for everyday, but now and then. I have a lot of old stuff, and I use just about all of it.

It seems like it deserves a re-knot and special occasion use for sure. That is a cool handle and I can see why you laid in wait for it.

I have a chestnut quarter horse. Bought her as a 2-year-old filly. She's 25 now, so getting up there. I wonder if quarter horse mane would make a usable knot. And, if so, how/who to do it? That would be cool.

I'd just clean it lightly and leave it as is as a display shaving item. It's gonna look cool in a set with a suitable bowl and an ABC Old Type razor.

Looks like it says Sterling in the second picture so it should be silver. Can't tell if there is a hallmark stamp.

clean/sterilize it for hygenic reasons, then leave it as is & display it.

it's only original once and that brush tells a story the way it is, don't mess with it.

That would be amazing if you could re-knot it with some of her mane and/or tail hair. I haven't the foggiest idea how one would go about finding an artisan that could do that. Maybe the Rooney guy could give you some advice? Heck, perhaps you could collect some hair yourself and try to cobble something together. It seems like one could get quite a pile of hair just doing normal brushing, etc.

What a great find!!! :thumbup1:

Wait until you get it to see what size knot it could take and make your decision from there. Whatever you end up doing with it, it will make a great display piece.
