cheapie scuttle

I was at a cookware place today and saw some French onion soap bowls that could probably double as a cheapie scuttle until you decide you really want to spring for the big one. It's a bit small but is a bowl with a handle. I didn't check the price but at that store things were up to 80% off.

Another thought for Skuttles or lather bowls are suribachi or mortars. They come in a variety of sizes, tend to be very heavy - especially the ceramic ones. Many of them are textured on the inside as well.

Off shoot - some toothbrush holders could double as razor stands as well

Thought about a suribachi, but am afraid what the grooves would do to the brush. They are made for grinding, not whipping up lather.

was the old 'coffee cup in a bowl' sitting in warm water.. I love my G5 scuttle, but there's not a LOT of difference between the two, save the convenience.. that and the G5 looks a lot nicer, almost like it belongs.. compared to a spare coffee mug and a cereal bowl.. grin

I am using a glass Tooth brush older I got at Wal-mart to hold my razors. it works great.

Target has ceramic dipping bowls for $4, though they don't have handles they work well enough and are the perfect size. They also stack, so fill one with hot water and set another on it for a cheap scuttle.

Of course, as I write this I'm waiting on my Dirty Bird 1.5 to be made

I can understand wanting a dirty bird scuttle, but being a newbie scuttle user I have given some serious comparison to each. I've been using a G5 for about a month now, and I use that stopper religously! It's holds my hot water inside while I pour out the main bowl that my brush has been soaking in. You just can't do that with the dirty bird. Other than that, I can't see where the dirty bird would be superior to the G5....must be missing something.

Really, it is a matter of personal taste but I have done a temperature test on the DB and the G5. The DB keeps hot water at about 20-25 degrees hotter than the G5 over a 15 minute time span. That translates into much warmer lather for a much longer time.
