What's new

Cheap cased President BIN on the bay.

looks pretty beat up though.

Yes it does. I think this is the second time the seller has listed this President set. I saw this the first time it was listed but passed since the case was in pretty bad shape but had it added to my watch list just to see if anyone bought it! No one did and so it's been listed the second time.

Its still not a bad price ans just a little beat up , when a clean case and razor can command the price of about $250-$350 and NOS $450 and up, Some people don't mind having a Vintage looking collection, Becausr it gives it that vintage look even more, I would of picked it up if i was starting out, till a better one came along, or maybe the pics make it look worse then what it is, which is what happens alot of the times.

Either way its a Decent Pickup.

Wow, I did not know that that's the going price of a decent cased Gillette President! In that case, this BIN price is a pretty good one.

The price is "fair" the merchandise is just a little "ruff ruff"

A good friend and serious (I mean dead serious) collector once told me

"Do not be afraid to over pay for an item if it is in perfect condition.

Buying something that is "OK" will only mean that you will still be looking for that item

In the end you will have several "OK" items that cost more than the over priced perfect one would have cost you and you will still be looking

When you finally do find that perfect item and add it to the scores of "OK ones you have collected the price of all of them will be far greater than what the one you should have bought would have cost you
"

If you are looking for a "user" President this is the one for you.

If you want something nice, this is NOT the one for you

I have to disagree. A much nicer one went for $41 just a couple days ago. Sure no case, but user grade is user grade and $40 is a lot of money for a case.

Its all in the Buyer's eye, as Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Also cases are much harder to get then is a Razor, A Plated Brass Razor Will last 10's longer then a case would, Razors are found dime a dozen but cases are not, thats why when you see a mint case up on the bay, Guys go crazy for it and price gets steep, you cant always go by what another auction went for, Sometimes there are flukes and bad auction end times or just bad listing are responsible for items to be viewed less on the bay by buyer's, Ive seen razors that are worth hundred go for 40 or 50 bucks, because buyers missed the auction and one lucky guy got an amazing deal, and then ive seen some auctions where a buyer pays over a hundred plus for a Blue tip :eek:/.

When it comes to Auctions and 20 people are bidding on an item whats to say you will win the Auction? Presidents in cases dont alwayd pop up everyday :eek:/

To a collector a cased razor is a plus, to a user looking to get a good deal it's not :eek:/

Forgive my ignorance on the US postage system but $40 seems like a lot to post. Is it?

That is the way some ebay sellers get their price for their items

Price an item at $1 then charge $100 for shipping something in a mailing envelop.

eBay "frowns" on this but will not do anything when it is pointed out.

Nope definatley $40.85 here in blighty. Even for international priority mail that seems a little steep to me.

Turtle your right about the postage making up the price. I'd like to think I've been fair with my postage rates when I've been on the BST or E-bay. I've even posted the royal mail site as a link so folk can see the price for them selves.

The seller provides no pictures of the razor open, and there is a blade in the razor as it sits. Does it open?

I would take it at $30 (if it actually opens) knowing that a replate is needed . . . but $80 seems high for its condition, even if it is a President.

The fact that it hasn't sold yet speaks volumes!
