"Chain Link" handles

Hey, Gents,

I recently won an Ever-Ready 1912 with a "chain link" handle on ebay. Now I'm looking for a 1912 Gem, and I'm seeing several offered with the same "chain link" handle as the Ever-Ready. I can't see any difference at all. Even the heads look identical. How can that be? They were seperate companies.

You will see Star and Treet razors as well that look like the GEM 1912. They are pretty much all the same razor, although the Treet razor I have appears to be made using a thinner guage of metal. Someone with more knowledge can probably recount why they are identical, though of differing manufacturers.

They are both American Safety Razor. Not sure why they had two brand names. Probably some history there -- I think ASR was buying up and/or merging with other razor companies. Perhaps they kept both names so as not to loose any brand loyalty buyers.
