Celluloid Heroes

No, this is not a review of fountain pens manufactured by the Shanghai Hero Pen Company! :001_cool:

My pen collecting has over the past several months tended to gravitate toward inexpensive vintage Celluloid pens from the 1930s and 1940s, particularly those manufactured by second- and third-tier U.S. companies. Besides looking very cool, many of them are quite nice writing instruments, and several have excellent flexible gold nibs.

I finally got them all together and managed to take some photos to share.

From left to right, the pens are:

1) Wearever (broken nib)
2) Congress (broken nib)
3) Parker Challenger(flex nib)
4) Eversharp Junior (flex nib)
5) Waterman Thorobred (flex nib)
6) Wasp Addipoint*
7) Wasp "The Clipper"*, green "circuit board" pattern
8) Vacuum*, gold "Lahn" pattern
9) Wasp* "The Clipper", silver "Lahn" pattern, flex nib
10) No Name, "Durium" steel semi-flex nib
* W.A. Sheaffer sub-brands

The two pens with broken nibs will eventually receive transplants and returned to service as soon as I get myself a knockout block.

If anyone has any interesting vintage Celluloid pens in their collection, please share some photos. I've found this to be an easy way to build a focused collection without a significant investment.

Nice. I've tried for a few of those type on the auction site but my bids are too low. I want to restore one first before I take on a bunch of projects.

They sure knew how to mix celluloid back in the good old days.

Impressive array, Larry!
